I've been considering doing the keychain challenge for a while, but always had something else to jump on instead. As it stands, I'm not in any September challenge and I'm getting back into the swing of posting on here, so it seems as good a time as any to go for it.
If anyone's after the badge and wants to join in next month, feel free.
-
I guess I'm on my own, then!
Day 1
Alox classic back on the keyring after a month of the Undercover Carry challenge.
-
I'd join you Michael but I haven't even driven anywhere in the last 2 weeks.
I do, however, keep my EDC keyring on me every day. Might get a bit boring seeing the same bits every day, but this setup works well for this retired old grandpa.
My keyring houses an Alox MiniChamp, Gerber Shard StreamLight Nano, brass LFM and of course an extra house key.
-
I've only got the one keyring, so the biggest part of the challenge will just be to not post the "same" photo over and over again each day... Part of the fun though, I guess. It would be nice to have some company, regardless of what form it takes.
Day 2
Morning brew.

Well, my company, these days, is my 3yo granddaughter. It used to be that I kept her 3 days during the week and now it's up to 5 plus most weekends too, so I don't drive much.
On Fridays, I sometimes get rewarded with a cup of coffee from Duncan. It's already gone today though so I just dropped my pocket onto a pad holder.
I'll try to get more creative this month.
-
Rare view of my other keyring.
Last night the Boss Lady thought that I needed to get out of the house , so we took the grandbaby to the park. So , here's my vehicle keyring.
Key fob for the Dodge, Doohickey+tool, actual key for the house and another StreamLight Nano. The paracord LFM serves as a grab point when it's in my pocket.
-
Nice bit of kit. :tu:
Day 3
I'm very late posting this compared to when the photo was taken, but awaiting a pub breakfast this morning.
-
Waiting on a pub breakfast sounds pretty good. Today I'm waiting on the women folk so that we can go see my daughter and other granddaughter.
-
Day 4
I've been out all day today. I've had numerous opportunities to take a good photo. I've ended up taking one using the laptop instead...
-
I'll keep ya company.
So I have a keyring and then I have a keyring that I keep tools on. On my actual keyring I have........ keys. Nothing exciting. I've gone back and forth with it over the years and since I don't drive that vehicle for anything except work there is no need to clutter it up.
My key ring however is something I've settled on to carry my tools. On it are a Midnight Manager, Aurora A5, and pill container. I've had other things on it but they end up not main the cut long term.
-
Welcome to what appears to be the easiest challenge of the year, Aloha. 😆 While I may struggle to find uses for some things on a regular challenge, I can always throw out one or the other keyrings.
You and I seem to have a similar philosophy on keyrings, one for tools and one for vehicle keys.
-
Welcome on board Aloha. I should really give the Midnight Manager a go one day.
I definitely agree with PitCarver that it's probably the easiest challenge of the year! :D I just fancied something relatively straightforward for a month...
Day 5
Been out at the cricket, and it's one of the rare days I've not got a beer in shot as well...

Enjoying the holiday today. The girls went to the local parade this morning. I knew that I couldn't do the walking so I stayed home and relaxed until they got home to tell me all about it. Little girl has had a busy weekend... AND she didn't want to go home when her mom came to pick her up.
Oh well, she's back tomorrow.
-
At least she's not away for too long, then!
Day 6
Locking up.

What to carry has always caused me to rethink my key ring carry items. How to carry is never been really an issue.
I like the Victorinox Belt Hanger a lot. I don't like attaching things to my belt loops. This has been the game changer for me. I can use the clip to attach things to go into my pocket. I can also attach things to the ring thats attached to the belt clip.
-
About got distracted, reading the SMKW catalog, this afternoon.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
-
Tell me about your brass person if you dont mind to share.
-
This article explains it, Aloha.
https://pocketedc.com/category/luckyfatman/
Most are 3D printed and some are made with paracord and I know a fellow, from Great Britain, that carves them from found wood.
If you do any paracording there are some tutorials on how to make different variations on the YouTube.
I got mine from my oldest friend, a while back.
-
My granddaughter and I are just chillin' on the front porch, while it's still reasonable today. We'll both be happy when the weather turns cooler.
-
Thank you. I was just talking about a way I choose to live and have for many years. I raised my kids the same way.
Kina’ole is an indigenous Hawaiian word which translates approximately to “Doing the right thing at the right time, for the right reason the right way, for the right person– the first time”.
:salute:
-
I like that.
A motto that was passed on to me is;
Accuracy is doing things right, while integrity is doing the right thing.
-
:salute:
Here are 2 "key" set ups I have for building I take care of. I keep them separate since I visit each on different months.
-
I like the idea of that lucky fat man...
Day 7
Another laptop shot, as after a day in the office I've been in a non-work meeting this evening as well. Not a lot doing.
-
Day 8
My parents have spent a couple of days away stopping at Salford Quays, as my dad was treating my mum to a concert round there. They've returned today and brought me a reminder of the only city away from that of my birth that I've ever called home.

Greetings fellas. Another do nothing (except watch the grand) day, today.
Only excitement on the horizon is taking the car for it's oil change on Saturday.
-
Day 9
Working hard or hardly working? You decide on a Friday...
-
Working hard at hardly working. Thats skill. 8)
-
Working hard at hardly working. Thats skill. 8)
I've had a lot of practice at it. :D
-
Here are two items that I had on my tools keychain for a long time. My Manager in sheath was my most carried tool. I changed out for a Midnight Manager. My LM #4 I got when they came out and it went straight onto my keychain. It just might go back. I was slimming my keychain down and it didn't make the cut. No fault of it at all. I had to make a cut.
I've revised my keychain countless times. I still do more or less.
-
Unexpected call from my sister in law.
My niece needed a lift to school.
In reality, I should have been doing it since school started, this year, but I had the covid again.
-

-
Well, the plans to take the Dodge to the shop have been changed till next Saturday, so I'm just staying home. Blah day outside but at least it's cooler than it normally is.
-
Day 10
On the train down to London first thing this morning.
-
Good afternoon folks. As usual I'm here at home, though alone at the moment, waiting on 2/3 of my granddaughters to arrive here to drive me further down the rabbit hole of "Peppa Pig".
Hope y'all's weekend was good.
-
Evening all.
Day 11
Earlier this morning before heading to the cricket. Now on the way home, albeit with a long way still to go.
-
Well now, it seems that my duties as bus driver for my nieces is back on.
Got called back in to service last night so I'll have call to get out again.
-
Day 12
Not a lot going on...

Couldn't you dodge it?...
:D :D
-
Nope. Being retired, and living just across the road, I'm the logical choice.
Besides , it literally gives me a reason to venture forth into the world each day.
-
Couldn't you dodge it?...
:D :D
I see what you did there...
-
Day 13
Another day, another pittance...

I see what you did there...
Yup, PitCarver didn't...
:D :D
-
Yup, PitCarver didn't...
:D :D
-
Back from the bus route today just in time to get an order in to SMKW for another Stockman and Jack knife.
Spent the rest of the day with my granddaughter.
Now I just have to wait, but it's already been processed and shipped.
-
My granddaughter decided that she wanted to get in on the challenge this morning. 🙄
-
Kids, always got to be the centre of attention... ::)
Day 14
Working from home. Not a lot doing.
-
Day 15
Took the Explorer out with me for the first time in ages. It came in handy cutting up dinner while the keyring just posed.
-
Had to go out and get some mo-gas, this afternoon. Forgot to take a pic of the working keyring so when I got back out on the porch out comes the tool ring.
-
Day 16
In a hotel in Nottingham for a couple of nights.
-
[ This attachment cannot be displayed inline in 'Print Page' view ] Nottingham? Sounds like a cool place.
All I get to go to is perhaps the mountains once in a year.
Today, all I got to do is get ready for 2 granddaughters for the night, get ready for the garage tomorrow and the other granddaughter tomorrow night.
I did get a new Stockman in, yesterday, and it's getting pocket time now.
-
Took the Dodge in to the shop today for some routine maintenance; oil change, tire rotation, etc. While waiting I started a wrap on my Ka-Bar Jaroz Rambler. Finished it up after I got home.
-
It's a lovely city, Nottingham. I'd recommend anyone to visit if they're in the area.
Day 17
Had that much of a day I didn't take a photo until I was back in the hotel...
-
Day 18
Massive delays coming home. Absolute nightmare. So I ended up having a wander round Tamworth Castle.
-
Awesome, except for the delays I guess.
Sometime around 5:30 this evening the last of the grandkids went home and I got some time by myself.
-
Oh well. Just got word from my daughter that my granddaughter has the covid. 🤬
Now I've done been through it twice and certainly didn't want it again but my morning bus route is on hold for at least another week or two, and I'm in self quarantine until I can get checked at the end of the week.
So that means that my tool ring will be doing the job, probably for the duration.
-
Hope shell recover quickly and not have any real symptoms. I do hope you dont have it. It's awesome you get to spend so much time with the grandkids.
-
Thanks buddy. I've already had it twice.
First time they put me in the hospital.
Didn't know anything for 3 days. I was out of it
-
Hope she makes a full recovery, PC. I've had it twice and I'm still smurfed from the first time, so I both sympathise and empathise and I really do she comes out in the clear.
Day 19
I was hoping for a more sophisticated post, but I've spent the last few hours in the boozer, so here's a basic shot from before I went out.
-
Came on to do my day 20 post and realized that I forgot to post my pic from yesterday, so without further delay, my doing nothing post.
-
Thanks, Michael.
My first was rough also. I never had any of the normal symptoms ... it just felt like I was drugged. Dr. called it covid induced brain fog. I definitely don't wish that on anyone.
Now that I've caught up with myself; my granddaughter and I are out on the porch enjoying a cool morning.
-
Day 20
I spent most of last night in the bathroom and still don't know the cause... So it's been a lazy day off work hoping I'll be good to go again tomorrow. So far, so good, thankfully.
-
Day 21
Back in work. Got through unscathed. Thankfully I've got a regularly scheduled day off tomorrow, so I can take it easy again.
-
Haven't left the house except to take the Dodge to the shop, in the last 3 weeks. Had to visit my wallet and keys today to let them know that I haven't forgotten them .
-
Day 22
A lazy day as stated. Afternoon rain put paid to anything other than catching up with non-work jobs.
-
Another day at the home with my granddaughter.
-
I’m enjoying your pics and keychains Michael and PC :like:
If I wasn’t already in the Ranger challenge this month I’d have joined you
Thought you might enjoy a pic of my two set ups :dunno:
Both using TEC Accessories clips and tritium vials
The one on the left is clipped to front left pocket and carried the most often has a Vic Rambler, Nitecore Tiki and mini lighter
The one on the right is my “posh” one 8)
Blankforces ti clip, Vic Manager, RovyVon A5x and mini lighter. Sometimes add a Gerber Shard or NiteIze doohickey

Cheers mate. It's good to know someone, somewhere is watching along!
A couple of good setups, there. Keeps you prepared for most of the smaller things that might crop up.
-
Day 23
Out on my dinnertime walk I thought I'd get a more interesting background to usual.
-
Can't seem to be able to get really creative with my pictures, I'm either inside the house or on the front porch.
The granddaughter wanted to blow bubbles today before she left to spend the night with her deadbeat father.
She'll be back on Sunday. 😎
-

:iagree:
Surprising how much you can get done with just this Michael, mind you I always carry something larger too 8)
-
While I will be able to leave the house for a while later I'm sitting on the porch now.
-
It's good to be getting out. :tu:
Day 24
Took a picture before going out for the day.

Day 25
Getting a few bits of life admin done today.

Not taking part in this one, just showing some support ;)
You're awl doing some outstanding work :salute:

It's really nice to be able to see what all other folks carry on a keychain. We did get out last night and went to my father in laws for dinner. The Boss Lady prepared the makings for an awesome salad bar like we used to have when her mom was still with us. On the way home she and I stopped for ice cream.
Today seems to be starting off nicely.
70° back on the porch...

Day 26
No caption day.
-
Well, today was a big nothing burger for me also. Tomorrow promises to be better... I gotta go to the dentist. 😟
-
Day 27
Nearly at the end... On the train home after watching a game of football on the other side of the Pennines. I've also got an appointment I'm not looking forward to as well, tomorrow.
-
Got to the dental appointment today.
In and out with just a clean. Spent the afternoon with my youngest daughter and my granddaughter.
-

One question: do you use the Shard still in the keyring or do you take it off?

-
One question: do you use the Shard still in the keyring or do you take it off?

It'll depend on what I'm needing it to do. Usually it'll stay on my keyring.
-
Couple more days now.
Today, my sidekick and I went out to the playhouse where she made me a snack. 🤔
-
Day 28
Appointment went fine. Day's gone well. Time for bed.
-
While we're over 100 miles from the coast, hurricane Ian has already caused the local schools to cancel on site classes and extra curecular activities for tomorrow. Took my niece to school this morning and my sidekick and I have settled in while she plays with Peppa Pig. Simple leg drop for today.
-
Hopefully it's over-caution and it doesn't drift over your way.
Day 29
The penultimate day. Not a lot going on for now.
-
Day 30
And we're done! Another 30 days passes "just like that". Thanks PitCarver for keeping my company over the challenge and thanks to those of you who dipped in and out. It's been interesting to see other keyrings and of course I'm now considering whether I want to add anything else to my own setup. ::)
-
Congrats gents, good challenge :hatsoff:
-
Thank you, Michael, for starting this challenge. As I said to Aloha, early this month that it would be a simple challenge, and it was. No having to find a use each day was a breather from other challenges.
As for changing carry, probably not for me.
So, as a parting shot, here's my tool ring in a homemade pocket pouch that I have it in each day, ready for use.
-
Had the 13 tool 1 key key chain of death. Now just 2 house, 2 club, ti whistle, 2 tags and a nitecore.
I keep myself in check buy only adding tools that look like keys!
