Title: CAD Files for anything on Swiss Army Knife
Post by: maxoom on August 09, 2018, 05:48:07 AM
Hi, new to this site. maybe I can help out with ANY CAD files you need. I'm a Mechanical Designer (Engineer). I have exceptional knowledge in Solidworks and Pro Engineer (Creo) and have use to the full blown versions of it and use it daily. If someone has a good DXF or DWG file or can give me some dimensions I can model a 3D of the scales or whatever you want. Otherwise I will have to try and take apart a knife and measure the crap out of it (but that would take sometime).

By the way, solid 3D CAD files are the best. I can convert to any format. If a DXF (or DWG, which really is no different) is needed I'l make the drawing and produce that. Been doing this for over 25 years. I designed robotics and automation as well as Heavy Equipment machines (Forestry) and some Electronics. This is easy stuff (the SAK knifes that is). I'd like to experiment on some Mods myself.

Thanks

Welcome to Multitool.org!

I don't have anything that would be of use to you, but I have no doubt someone in these hallowed halls may be able to help. I look forward to seeing what comes of this.

You can find some 3D print ready designs online.
Remade knives released some open source scales which contain the right dimensions. After downloading those, you can alter the front of the scales as you please!

And welcome to MTO!

Hi

Thanks for the responses, don't know anything about the advertisement because I didn't advertise anything. I think it may have been my email for contact that they didn't like, I don't see it there. Anyway someone posted something from Remade Knives. Unfortunately those files and others like it are all ready in a ".stl" format which is ready fro 3D printing and you cannot measure anything on them. They are a real "dummy" file. A "native" CAD file (ie, SolidWorks or Creo) is best. STEP files are also okay.If someone knows where these may exist let me know. I'd be glad to measure and post dimensions.

Max- welcome to the forum.  I have responded to your email and I think there is a lot of potential here to do some cool things for the forum.  I am looking forward to chatting with you!

Hi, Sorry if I sounded like I was selling a service, I'm not. I was just trying to pitch in with my experience as a mechanical designer with knowledge in Solidworks and Pro Engineer (Creo). I'm just trying to see if someone out there had some good dimensions for anything on a Swiss Army knife and I could model that up and share in this group, that's all. I'm trying to build a fixture so I can take apart a knife and place it into the fixture piece by piece so I know how it goes back together. I've measured one up and think I'm fairly close. Main thing right now is the brass pin hole locations. I got a dxf file from someone you all know in this forum and it's not exactly matching up so I'll try out some more measurements with a machinist friend. Grant was very generous to me and sent me some parts to play around with. Whatever I come up with I'll definitely share in this group. Here's what I've got so far as in a model for the pin holes, need to check over the dimensions. Hopefully the picture comes thru.
