Title: leatherman pst with classic Wave plierss
Post by: Leatherman123 on September 05, 2007, 03:07:58 AM
As I have told you guys before- Leatherman replaced my pst and surge with a refurbished tool. But after looking at it I realized something. The Plier head is like the same as on my classic wave. I am very happy with this! NOTE- usa is etched off the plier head

Sometime in the late 1990's, Leatherman started putting the new-design plier head on all PST's, PST II's, and SideClips.

I agree, the new plier style is better. You can see how much beefier it is around the pivot area.

Yeah, they ground that off because it didn't meet the percentage of manufacture requirement to legally say USA on it.

Since some parts of it were made outside of the USA, then assembled in the USA, they can't claim it's made in the USA.

They met the requirement from all the other states.  California was the only one that baulked.

California should not count anyway.  Or should I say "The peoples republic of California" should not count anyway. :)

Yeah, that really annoys me if I think about it too much (I try not too :D ) By "protecting" Americans from "mislabled" American tools, they are actually hurting American industry IMO. Since LM can no longer use the advantage of producing in America (saying made in USA), or the advantage of foreign production (cheap labor cost). Just my $.02

Cars have a higher percentage of foreign parts than most US tools, but they still get to say "Made in the USA".  The big three just has a much bigger lobbing group ($$$) than the smaller manufacturers.

I think that they should be able to do dual-advertising on the packaging, something like this:

LEATHERMAN CHARGE AL
MADE IN THE USA*

*Except in California, where it is made somewhere else.
