Let me start by defining a fidget. Its anything you "play" with. A lot of times you will sit down, and start flicking open a knife, or rolling a coin between your fingers, or clicking a pen.
Although i do want to know what your Fidgeting is, there are certain things out there actully called fidgets. They are simply toys/doohickies that occupy the hands while you listen think, type, etc...
Ill start. I found these on Etsy and absolutely love them. They are silent, and can be exposed in general public and classroom environments.
I DO realize A.L.O.T. of yall just flick knives, or open MTs, or roll coins but i want to KNOW about it in this thread.
Note* I may be using these findings for a statistics class. As "fidgets" are also used in ESE Settings .

Damn... I'm going to have to make one of them.

I spend a lot of fidget time flicking the caribiner on my Style CS

I carry a challenge coin on my keyring carabiner and spin it when walking behind people, they look around thinking they have dropped a coin. It's a pretty fun game.

Zippos. I am always opening and closing my Zippo. And if I am very bored, I will start doing tricks with it.

I used to fiddle with my Zippo back when I was a smoker. one hand pinch opening and then close.. repeat ad nauseam.

For years it was my komboloi, first a silver with corneole, then a coral root, now an obsidian from Santorini. I like them heavy, my best is from amber that belonged to my grandfather, fit for sultans. At the same time I fiddled with my EDC alox Cadet.
Lately I have many more fidgets all the sudden (I don't blame just kirky but the whole MTO, kirk is ofcourse a prominent member of MTO and takes his share). Spirit (music!), Charge TTi (OHO blades), Crunch (tight the screw and lock jaws), alox Harvester and now my Animus (sexy scales), Swisschamp (I open and close the fiscaler one handed), Juice (the bottle opener), Opinel (OHO) etc, you name it. Some times it's the Pocketwrench, spinning around and caressing the lustfull stainless steel.
But the real fidget, one that serves no other function other than reducing stress or boredom and producing delight is the MTO pocker chip. I love stainless steel but it gets cold and sometimes it isn't well finished and it has sharp edges. But the chip is perfect, in comfort temperature and feeling between silky and velvety, perfectly round and symmetric, it is the third best tactile experience after female skin and chinchilla.
-
+1 for the poker chip. :tu:

No, because normally it is inside someone else. :pok:

Let's keep this going.... but maybe a wee bit cleaner.

Bump. I found some of these things in the living room today...im guessing the dog grabbed them out of my siblings room. They are quiet, but they look like 5 year old toys.

Dice. I absolutely love dice. Just the classic 6 sided type. The clackier the plastic the better.
I EDC anywhere from 5-12 of them daily. I will squeeze three of them in my palm and kind of grind them on each other and roll them around. Or I will just cup them in my hand and rattle them a bit.
Rolling them is also the obvious fidget and time killer, and I do that too. And of course I do roll dice games with my friends at the bar often.
They probably are my most important edc item after blade, light, lighter, wallet, phone.
If you don't mind taking the time to learn a few simple games, dice are extremely versatile entertainment.
And a lovely smooth and satisfyingly clackety fidget.
-
A few random pics of dice I carry. The yellow ones are gitd.
-
That's a lot of dice! No classic whites?
-
That is maybe 1/3 of the dice I own. Plenty of white ones. :)

This caused me to go on a great hunt to find my pair that I bought some 20 odd years ago. I had completely forgotten I had them. I did find them in an upstairs storage container. Now they have a spot in a curio cabinet.
I bought them at the time because I found them beautiful.

I have two pairs of those balls, an ornamental from some Chinese market that I bought about a decade ago and another one in stainless steel that was a corporate gift with a wooden base, that I have on my office desk. They are nice, I use the second occasionally. They are identical to those I see, China is the powerhouse of globalization nowadays.

Those balls look awfully addictive.
I got an interesting fiddle pen recently:
(http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z42/Toftylicious/Tactical%20Pen/UsusiPen014c_zpsdab38af6.jpg) (http://s194.photobucket.com/user/Toftylicious/media/Tactical%20Pen/UsusiPen014c_zpsdab38af6.jpg.html)
The Usus. i pen. The two halves are held together with magnets, while the wave shaped interface lets the two halves connect in either the open or closed position. The main fiddle factor is that while holding it, one end can be flicked round 180 degrees from one open position to another, with a gentle thumb movement. Seeing how many times it can be flicked before it inevitably drops into the closed position.
I think I bought it for £11, so it's not too bad.
Another and even more fiddlable magnet pen is the Polar Pen: http://polarpen.com/
Basically it's made almost entirely from small magnets, allowing it's complete disassembly and rebuilding as something else. I'm debating whether to get one or not. I've been on a big pen bender for small and/or unusual pens, which will become apparent when I finally get round to doing some reviews.

The name of the video should have been a hint. ;) Begleri. :D
The version with more beads is called Komboloi and is used a bit differently but KK should be able to explain it better.
Yup. Made that one years ago from two dice and a shoelace. I made a few with monkey balls too.

My bad. I don't see a name on Tapatalk, it's just a video that plays when I click on it!
I'd like to switch my EDC to full anodized titanium. I wonder If 2 titanium beads would be too loud for a college class? Monkeys Fist would be the next best option. I just hate tying them out of paracord!
-
Too loud and dangerous for class I'd say. It took a friend whole 5 seconds from "Let me try it." to firing them straight into his face.
Great for in between classes though.

Those pens are very interesting. Especially the polar, I wonder why having a pen that acts as a protractor wouldn't be standard issue for an artist or engineer. The ability to draw a circle is NOT a common ability....

I'll probably end up buying one. I should start a poll just for "forum induced purchases" and see how much money we spend in a month because of this place!
I think it'd be even better to combine it as a lanyard. People would never know it's dual purpose!

I fidget with anything in my hands really  But one thing I particularly like are the half-stop implements on Vics. The half-stop makes them one-hand enabled which is good :) So, usually, the bottle opener on a Cadet or something like that, open - half closed - open - half closed etc.

What about tops¿?¿ does anyone like to spin a top? I do at times but mostly I fidget on my phone

I occasionally spin a pen or pencil but I used to be much better at it.

Well we went all digital at work two years ago and I don't even have to sign my name anymore on any documents, everything is signed digitally so as anything you don't do often, you get out of practice with it.

Still enjoying my keychain fidget.
I've found out that if I have it in my right hand while driving I almost never change the song on the radio.
I used to have a pretty bad habit of clicking to the next song just to do something. (http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14/12/29/f3363519dc76e2d15e3d2e5284efeded.jpg)

I actually ended up making a fidget, due to this thread - just 2 chain links connected (4 posts in total equals 2 links, right?). Not much movement in it, but I couldn't remember the design of the fidget in the first post; got a project for tomorrow now. Might even look into making that other one as well, the one with two keyrings and two links.
Ohh, btw... That Polar pen? I want it! Looks awesome and I love playing with magnets.

Bringing this topic back from the dead!
I've also been bitten by the hand spinning tops bug. :ahhh :ahhh
Here are my attempts at making one.
1st prototype, more of a proof of concept.
I remembered I had some worn derailleur pulleys, and decided to try and make something out of them.
Cleaned them up, degreased them, and gave them a spin... That was a bust! The ball bearings had bits of rust so, I extracted the bearings from the pulleys, bought a cheap bearing, degreased it, and glued the 3 bearings together with super glue. It worked out nicely but it just spins for a few seconds...
I am now working on my 2nd prototype.
Bought 5 bearings, 1 good quality one and 4 cheap ones to use as weights.
Again, degreased the bearing, and this time, I'm putting them together with screws between 2 layers of 0.5mm carbon fiber sheet.
This one is still a work in progress, and will look a bet better once finished.

Here it is! V2 is finished... mostly...
It spins much better than V1, but, as it was made without any precision tools, it's not perfectly balanced. Overall, I'm very happy with the result.
Also, I learned something in the process... rubbing alcohol and plexiglass don't go well together. It's cracked allover, but it's a nice effect. I'll have to make new thumb rests.
(here you can see the thumb rests without any problem)

Sweeeeeet! :D
Ive been spinning my pencil around my thumb for awhile now but it might be nice to break out the fidgets.
I saved the Bearing and Racer off the rear axle of my Duramax. It still spins great so I'd like to try and make something for it one day......because I don't have enough projects apparently

The Vorso is awesome! The possibility to swap the bearing is genius!!
I just can justify spending 150+ euros it would take to get one. (I know they're sold out at their website, but there's a drop running over at massdrop for those that want to get one - $194.99 + shipping)
-
Here it is completed.
Smaller footprint, and shorter spin times (there's a couple of reasons for this - read through). This is to be expected since I'm using steel bearings with steel cage, so there's quite a bit of friction.
One thing I found out is that I'm not using stainless steel bearings. I didn't know this at first, and removing the lubricant that they came with, turned out to be a bad idea.
I started noticing some grinding effect, and latter realized it was rust starting to form inside the bearing. So I can't have the bearing completely unlubricated, so I use a couple of drops of mineral oil, but this also adds to the friction, and shorter spinning times, however, it spins really smoothly.
Either way, it's not a big deal, since i find myself starting and stopping it mid spin. It's more about the fidgeting than the spin times.

I had to decommission the V2! :-\
Was tying to make some improvements, or so I thought they would be, but I wasn't very successful... :twak: Ended up taking to much material from the carbon fiber layers, and it had too much flex in the middle. Tried gluing the bearing to the CF, but that didn't solve the problem.
So, I took it apart, and used most of it to make a new one.
Here it is, V2.1

Yes it's carbon fiber. Those are the remains of the V2...

My fidget is a rubix speed cube. I decided to learn how to solve the rubix cube last year (gotta love you tube for stuff like that), and am now trying to get my time down to as low as possible. I stuck with a cheapo cube until I could solve it easily, then invested in the rubix speed cube and cube lube (which turned out to be standard silicon grease) to get faster. Once I've got to the limits of this one I'll invest in one of the expensive speed cubes maybe.
I keep a rubix cube on my desk at work which most people naturally pick up and mess up for me as well.
I'm down to 2 1/2 minutes now. It never ceases to amaze me how people can solve them in seconds. I'll be happy once I get under 2 minutes (for now) :D
-
Wow - I remember the Rubiks cube when it first came out! I used to be able to solve it, but it took me a lot longer than 2.5 minutes! A guy at school taught us all how to do it.
I have to say that my Vorso Flat Top is hardly ever out of my hand now. It requires no thought, helps me concentrate. I even took it to Oktoberfest :D

It's been a while since I picked mine up!
I think the best time I ever got was just a hair under 2 minutes.
If you want to get a good speed cube without being too expensive, you can try cube4you dot com. I have an original, but it was quite stiff, Then I got a speed cube kit (yes, completely disassembled :ahhh) from that site, and got another kit (a cheaper one) completely free!!

Begleri received from firiki in his 5k GAW - This is awesome to fiddle with. The stones are very tactile and the whole thing has a nice weight to it.
It also acts as an extremely competent dowsing pendulum.

I will yes! I did try to film me putting a batch together last week as some guys of Facebook were asking, but it didn't come out well!
I will try again soon though - maybe just go through the parts / how to assemble :)

I had to take the SAK apart, drill and tap two holes for the screws, and put it back together. For the clip I just had to enlarge the hole to fit M2.5 screws.
I can take a few pictures later, and post them here.

I fidget with anything in my hands really  But one thing I particularly like are the half-stop implements on Vics. The half-stop makes them one-hand enabled which is good :) So, usually, the bottle opener on a Cadet or something like that, open - half closed - open - half closed etc.
Same! The perfect spring on the half stop of the bottle opener of my tinker is so addicting to play with

I should probably carry something to fidget with more often, I have been carrying a silver Dollar for a few tears, partly with this in mind but it doesn't really lend itself to fidgeting (unless you start learning some coin-tricks). Another hing I've carried is this pair of miniature coconuts that I found in France. I have emptied them through the three "marks" that they have. Their main fault is the sound they make otherwise they are really fidgetable (I guess the correct term would be tactile).
I forgot to add any scale to the picture but they are just over an inch in diameter. This is also my first try at hosting my pictures myself, I hope it works.

I found this today...and I will say, this is the best. I can't stop playing with it.
Meet the Jitter Box.
There is a very nice smooth joystick on one side (top in these photos). One side features 3 independent rolling gears with a metal ball bearing. Another side has a rocker switch.
(http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r207/Chako_photo/Chako_photo004/IMG_2603small_zpsn3n81vnr.jpg) (http://s145.photobucket.com/user/Chako_photo/media/Chako_photo004/IMG_2603small_zpsn3n81vnr.jpg.html)
One side has a rotating disk, and another features 5 buttons. One pair have a nice satisfying click. Another pair features a different tactile feel to them. The middle button is a two position button.
(http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r207/Chako_photo/Chako_photo004/IMG_2604small_zpsd1appglj.jpg) (http://s145.photobucket.com/user/Chako_photo/media/Chako_photo004/IMG_2604small_zpsd1appglj.jpg.html)
The bottom of the cube features an oval indent that feels good to your fingers.
For more info, I found the kick-starter page.

Mad plumbarian brought this up the other day in fact.
Where did you getyours. The kickstarter is a link to the original developers who hasn't produced theirs as of yet.
-
Wow, how did I spot this? He's got the link to the original which are made by Antsy labs, anything else is fake like the one I got, I didn't know at the time. But the little guy will be putting his to use tomorrow cause his classes start for the first time this year, so I guess we'll see, if it works for him then I'll see about getting him the real thing..
I'm also a fidgiter, I gotta do something I can't sit still, so while sitting here watching tv I normally reach for something and do something, I must say that plastic thingy with bearings looks soo tempting!

Here's a pic of the fake one I got for my son and then the real one,

Not bad for $15, but it's still not the real thing, but hey if it works who cares.. on eBay they actually have cases for them for like $3. How's yours working for you, the kid started school this Tuesday, so he's had only a couple days to use it and he says he likes it. If it works for him I'll have to order him the real thing when they start shipping them out, and of course get one of the fake cases cause there cool looking..

Ditto! Came in handy lighting the soldering tourches too, since it's not under pressure it can't blow up! But that fidgeting opening and closing that top while in pocket was totally fun!

awesome! You guys seem to have adapted the DIY thing for fidget spinners. Well I'm not that crafty a guy and simply bought one online. Recently, I faced issues with the speed and friction I suppose, this LINK REMOVED helped me out.

Oh, and I was a ratchet wrench fidgeter too... there's something satisfying about spinning a heavy wrench by its socket.
EDIT: I've solved Rubik's Cubes too. All the way from a 2x2 to a 6x6. The 5x5 is my favorite. (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170619/ffb01bf9d1a08f34d3b3cc2e51a2e6e1.jpg)

I'm assuming you've become acquainted with Shengshou if you're into cubing... if not, They're my favorite cube for higher order. Dayan is my 3x3 of choice, I've got Shengshou for everything else. The 4x4 is a bit loose for my tastes but for the money they're unbeatable.
But I derail the thread. Business as normal, all!
