Anyone associated with MTO going this year?

Does MTO automatically get a ticket?

Couldn't we send an administrator or moderator if Grant can't make it? Or is it not a swap type deal?

I'd go but i'm a dumbass when it comes to cool stuff and explaining what i saw. My photography skills are sub par, my meet and greet skills are even lower. Plus i'd get kicked out after applying the five finger discount at a few booths. >:D

I'd happily go for MT.O but getting a trip to Vegas together in such limited time would be basically impossible.

In the old days MTO was represented yearly at shot, but nobody has been there for a few years now, since the schrade tough tool incident.

From past experience in the forum, if a member can go there and report I think Grant should be able to help them with tickets, contacts etc  (no money).

Are you referring to the incident where J-Sews crushed one with his bare hands? I thought that was just one he bought. Are you telling me he did that at Shot Show, to a display piece?

Originally I had planned to go this year, but my plans changed.  Then, it looked like Megan would go for us, and we made arrangements for her father to go with her as her photographer.  Then she got a job in Canadian Parliament and that killed that idea.  I went back to my original plan of me trying to go, but since I am now injured I can't go to the corner store let alone Las Vegas.

We have also sent other people in the past, but it is something I really don't want to do again, for reasons I'd rather not mention openly.

And yes, the Tough Tool crushing was a display piece, at the Schrade booth.  I don't think they even noticed to be honest.

If Grant ever changes his mind, I'll happily go cover it next year. I'm a former journalist turned PR guy in the motorsports industry, so I'm more than familiar with how to cover trade events and how to properly conduct myself at them, and I have the requisite writing and photography skills to do a proper article.

No piccies yet, but nice to see them putting a bladeless tool back on the market. I know we caught a sniff of this a while back, but nice to have confirmation. They really missed a trick not bringing something else out when they discoed the bladeless Fuse

I will however NOT be buying one  :D

Skeletool RX!!! Not that exciting, BUT IT'S ORANGE!!!!!

"Leatherman the leading pliers based multitool company has announce a first responder version of the Skeletool known as the Rx. The knife features a serrated blade with more of a Sheep’s foot share in 154CM premium steel.

The tool features a carbide glass breaker instead of a Phillips screw driver, comes in emergency orange, and will start shipping in February."

I saw on another site that the orange is Ceracoat. The carbide glass breaker is a bit. Two things: 1) does this mean it will be available for sale 2) you have to have the tool open to use it - could be problematic trying to generate enough force in open mode.

I found a thumbnail of the Knifeless Rebar. I'm a little disappointed.

Doesn't look like they moved the nail nicks to line up with the handle cutouts.... which might look a little sloppy when all closed up  :-\

Not surprised they went for Wave type scissors to standardise the range nd keep the inventory and tooling costs down.

Any news on a ruined Wave with Rebar plier head yet?

Interesting tool progression there. Surprise they dropped the Phillips though, and not sure how you'd safely use a glass breaker in the same place. Must be removable though, as there's a bit stored in the handle

Im kinda disappointed in the knifeless Rebar. They just threw some Wave scissors into it. This was Leathermans opportunity to add some awesome blade length scissors to this chassis. Id would have been happy even if it was just based off the Wingman design, with different pivots. Nope. There will be a nice big spacer where the serrated blade went too. They couldn't even be bothered to fit the mini bit driver In there.

Why not a Knife less Wave (their most popular MT, correct?) With outside scissors.

A knifeless Wave would be awesome. Outside scissors :tu: but what about the other slot? A full length, outside-access bit driver would be cool

Open tool. Grip lower arm with bit extending past palm. Hit window as hard as you can. Ok, great, but then the upper arm collapses down on your hand. The sharp-ish edges of the lower handle will feel great inside your tightly gripped palm upon impact.

I like the idea of a glass-breaker bit. I like that they actually developed a new bit for their bit drivers. But a ER skeletool could have been a lot better than this. That is really my biggest problem with the whole Skele-line, they leave a lot on the table with them.

I'm disappointed with Kershaw and CRKT. I like their designs, but it seems like they're making everything in 8Cr13MoV these days. Kershaw has the expensive automatics. I miss the middle ground options like the Knockout and Carajas.

It kinda makes sense though, the carbide tip would have killed pockets like crazy. The end result is a tool where the idea is better than the execution (have we seen that before?).

Buck appears to have expanded it's tool line beyond the black oxide Bow Tool they released last year. You can see the BO Bow Tool and a green one right behind it. It looks like the same chassis, but a different color scheme. I haven't found any deets on that yet, though. Probably just a different color option.

SHOT Daily - Day 2

SOG ad on page 19 that says "Year of the Multi-tool" with super tiny pictures of the SwitchPlier 2.0, PowerPlay, and Reactor - the same pictures we've been seeing for a while now. A little article on Leatherman on page 59. Talking about a new company image, or something. Otherwise, a lot of boom-sticks. Some knives. A lot of other gear.

Huge stock photo of the Reactor, missing bolt and everything

Does it really have to be a bolt there? Or rather, does it really have to be a head there? Could it simply be that the head is on the other side and the handle itself is threaded?

You are right! I think the bolt is behind the outer scale, because it is definitely missing in the video. Good catch :tu:

edit: well, not missing. but not visible from the outside, I suppose

The Reactor looks like it could be a winner .

Shorter issue today. A lot of knives in this one, not as heavy on firearms today. Articles on Leatherman, Gerber, and SOG. I also saw an ad featuring Buck's new (just color?) Bow Tool.

Gerber video. Breaks down the Shortstack, which we has been out for a while, and a new sheath system they debuted at SHOT. The sheath is pretty interesting. It features a quiet-open flap, is expandable to the users need, and is of course MOLLE compatible.

Kinda interested in the new Skeletool, even if the carbide puncher is

The Reactor from SOG looks neat. The molded sheath from whatever tool was after the Reactor in the video pushed a mall ninja button in my brain.

Vic's video was underwhelming and frankly disappointing. Why were they showcasing old models?

I'd say SOG has definitely taken the lead with bringing us new toys this year.

For sure. Very excited about the prospect of a Skeletool without the ergonomic fails.

For posterity sake, here is the SHOT Daily Day 4. I didn't see anything multitool related, but their was a write up on Benchmade :tu:

I don't know if I used posterity correctly, and I don't care

Really good series of albums from SHOT. Not just tools and knives, but lots of boom-sticks and various accessories, too.

Not sure if anyone else saw this one very Skeletool-ish but I still like it
