There's one in my Amazon cart as of two minutes after I typed that. :D Next kickba-tip! I mean next tip ::) I get from a contractor at work it'll be mine.
Still not to worry, I'm pretty certain Chako and Greg will soon turn this into a full blown encyclopaedia all about the venerable Gerber 600 :tu:
Very nice, Paul! :tu: Wait..... You started the owner's club before you were actually an owner of one? :P
Very nice MP600!! :tu:Thanks buddy! It's seen quite a bit of use although I've been carrying my Wave a lot recently.

You get use to it. When I had an MP400, I used to just flick the pliers out, get the tool out that I needed and slide the plier head back in. Its a routine that you quickly get used to.
Thanks to a generous anonymous benefactor I am now a proud owner! Sent me a NIP one for FREE! Can I join the club? Gotta love MT.O and their very awesome members!

Has anybody gotten the MP600 Bladeless yet? I was just cruising around on Gerber's site and saw it listed. Anyways, pretty cool move on Gerber's part, good for travel (probably) and should be legal in UK etc...

I was going to make a new thread but since I am at work, the restrictions the gov't puts on our network won't allow me to.

Great news, but the link doesn't seem to be working
Didn't work
Got it on another US site. That tool load is identical to my MP600BW! Cool!
Ironic that its available in the US,but not here in the UK

I'd give it a chance, it does look like it's a new line. I do hope it becomes available soon (and at a good price) here. :)

hi, I own the Gerber 600. It is the first multi tool that I bought.Welcome to the club :D
It has serve me well.
Wanting to join as well.

So far my only Gerber-tool. I didn't really think I'd get along with it, due to it being alot bigger than what I've carried so far and the fact that all tools are on the inside, but so far I really like it. Especially the flicking. :D
However, when I tried to make a cut earlier today, the pliers got misaligned. It didn't make the cut, and I didn't expect it to, I was just trying to get a feel for how solid and comfortable the tool is.
Has any of you ever experienced this? The pliers still slide freely in the handle and when I take the plier head out of the handle, I can't see any damage at all, except the misalignment. It won't interfere with my use of the tool, it just annoys me...
And while we're at it... When the pliers are all closed, like in the picture, they're pretty hard to open; most of the time, I end up using both hands on the handles. Are they supposed to be like that or should they just move freely, as soon as they're out of the handle?
If you were trying to cut hard wire it proably made a burr which will misalign the pliers. The burr can be filed out and the pliers should return to normal. :)
I would like to join this association. Here is my Blunt Carbide 600, and a Crucial adopting a submissive pose to the more industrial tool.
My first tool was/is a MP600. I still have it, though shes in a bad way now. Probably the worst looking example out there :-\. Still though, I came to appreciate the industrial ruggedness and it survived being in the hands of a foolish kid for quite a few years mostly in tact.:worthless:

Oh geez, I'm actually afraid to post it for fear of what the Gerber junkies may do to me. Next time I'm home I'll snap a few pictures of the old girl.
Did Gerber ever release a pro-scout with carbide cutters?
Did Gerber ever release a pro-scout with carbide cutters?
Absolutely. :) There seems to have been a fairly small run of blunt nosed Pro Scouts with cutters, but the standard head with cutters seems to be much more common.
Ebay has 3 more for sale!

I was able to use the metal file one my Wave to fix the uneven grind on the plier head. All is well, I'll chalk that one up to a fluke.

Agreed. I'm glad I got this MP600, it has been too long since I've had a proper Gerber.I was able to use the metal file one my Wave to fix the uneven grind on the plier head. All is well, I'll chalk that one up to a fluke.
-AdmSlc
Well done. Now you do not have to return it or wait for a replacement.
I am very disappointed with this Gerber multitool. As you can see the grind on the plier tip is uneven. There is only one edge on the very corner where it touches. Did I get a bad batch or is the quality control terrible?

I am afraid that even if you find an old Mr. Pinchy as a donor, the pivot area on the Mr. Pinchy tools is smaller and I am not sure if they can be adapted to the MP600 chassis.
And: Nice mod!

Thanks! I've been a long time lurker, but finally decided to post. I'm pretty busy with my YouTube channel and IG account, but I really want to get more involved with modding- and this forum is the best I've ever seen. I like the Stainless Endura more than my FRN FFG- Firstly, I'm a welder- so it won't melt- Second, it has zero front to back blade play- unlike any of my other FRN Spydie lock backs. Cheers my friend, see ya 'round!

I used the wire cutters on my MP600 BN the other day. They're not good at all. Not big enough to cut through a power cable in one go. Cutting single stranded wire of 16 gauge half pinches it and half cuts it.That sucks. I wasn't impressed with the cutters either. On the upside, I will take the BN600 off your hands when your done with it
REALLY poor execution on the wire cutters, Gerber. Especially for the MT electricians are likely to choose.
At first, I thought carbide cutters would be brilliant, but reading about the breakages really made me realize that Leatherman's choice of 154CM was better: not brittle enough to shatter, but harder than anything likely to need cutting.
I need to try the standard cutters on an MP400. They should at LEAST be able to cut a coat hanger and 10 gauge wire without any drama. If not, I might be off of Gerber for good.
Their overall quality is just not there.
I'm on the fence about getting a carbide cutter version with the stories about shattering inserts. A lot of people complain about the 600 design but I would trust one with my life!
I do buddy, even though I don't carry it much lately. I like the Diesel too.Would you say the Diesel is better or the same as the pro scout?
Sent from my SM-G920R4 using Tapatalk
That's one I struggle with. I would say overall they are the same to me, but each has pluses and minuses. I like the Pro Scout's pliers and ease of flickiness better as the Diesel's is a little tougher/trickier to flick. Neither has a metal saw, but the PS's remgrit saw could potentially do the job. The Diesel has a wood saw, although the remgrit may handle that too. Diesel is heavier too, but I prefer how it feels in hand. It has the 2D phillips, but also has the largest flathead while the PS doesn't. I think the Diesel slightly edges out the MP600 for my liking, but it's very close.I do buddy, even though I don't carry it much lately. Makes sense. I was comparing the two and it seems to come down to very few differences. The pro scout also has the 3d phillips, blade exchanger, and the USA tag. I eventually want to get a pro scout because I had a diesel and it would be nice to compare the two in hand. Thanks for the feedbackThat's one I struggle with. Yeah the 3D phillips is a plus, but you lose the large flathead, so it's a matter of preference there. The blade exchanger with remgrit saw is a plus too, but I don't know what other blades are available, and don't like having other parts to carry since I don't use a sheath. The Diesel just seems a little more complete to me. It all comes down to personal preferences though, as all these MTs do. The Pro Scout is great though, and I recommend it if you like Gerbers. It's definitely one of the best :tu:Makes sense. I was comparing the two and it seems to come down to very few differences. The pro scout also has the 3d phillips, blade exchanger, and the USA tag. Why does the bladeless 600 only come in black?I really don't know
I don't know if I could do the bladeless, as my plain wharncliff and serrated blades are used quite often in my MP600. In fact, I just sharpened my blade again yesterday to touch it up a bit. I don't think I would ever use the remgrit blade, nor the Gerber scissors. One thing I like about the standard model over the Pro Scout is the large flat driver, which also sees a lot of use.Yeah, if you use the MT blades a lot (which I don't), then a bladeless wouldn't be much good. I do like the blade on them as it's a good utility blade, but I rarely use it. The MechaRogue's blade and awl handle most or pretty much all of my typical blade needs. Lol, I do understand I could keep them all, and I do enjoy them all. However, I want to trim the fat so to speak. I want just a few MTs to stick with, but it's a tough choice indeed.
I'm eagerly awaiting the mail today, as I have a Gerber bit kit coming which I assume adapts to my Phillips. I will carry this in pocket to support my MP600 and may outfit it with different bits, I'm not sure yet.
@Kyle - You don't have to pick a favorite and sell your others off. It IS possible to have and enjoy different models ;)

If you add in the tool holder you could put whatever saw blade you wanted in - wood, metal, remgrit (and easily swap/replace whenever you wanted).

I actually already happen to have a u shank with the hole, it came with my jigsaw (which actually takes t shanks anyhow.).Me too ;). Its just missing a woodsaw... For now

The problem being is that it´s hard to find U-shank blades in general and ones with the hole and adequate thickness even more so. At least here in germany
If you have a good source, let me know.
You could use the saw from a Strata or Diesel, for example, making the shears even more garden-oriented.
As far as EDC, although I have a sheath for my MP600, I often just toss it in my back pocket (where I barely notice it :D )Right or left? I've got to be honest, I've never even considered back pocket carry got a multi...

I carry mine in the right back pocket next to my wallet, on the right of it. Keeps it vertical and in place so it's less noticeable. my other submission. Black and White MP600 Bluntnose. Been carrying this on a pocket dangler all day, seems to work best for meI like the dual color scheme :tu:
The two tone is nice, really makes the tool look much sharper, like it's wearing a suit. And the pocket dangler really makes this tool for me. I cant seem to find another way to carry this tool.
looks great and its probably not bad on the dangler.
Nice, and I like to see someone take advantage of the lanyard loop. One of the many nice features of the tool :DYep, lanyard loop is nice, if you use it. If you don't, I can see how it's frustrating to have. It is a bit thick, I feel like halving that tool slot with the small driver and adding a woodsaw would make Gerber a real competitor.
I need some MP600 parts so I can put mine together.PM sent

With the tool flat, hold the end of the outside handle. Give the tool a sharp flick to the outside with your wrist, and the pliers will pop out.

There's also the other way, the way that Leatherman recommends for their models with the slide-out pliers.
Hold with the thumb and forefinger on the release buttons, with the tool handles down. Then press the buttons and flick it downward, so the handles drop away from the plier head.
Since the handles with tools are heavier than the plier head, this method works with a lot less speed and force, it's more reliable for me.

Since the handles with tools are heavier than the plier head, this method works with a lot less speed and force, it's more reliable for me.
True, that works well also. They're just so fun to flick the way I posted that I rarely open them in any other way. :)

I have a Pro Scout with a chipped flat driver and the plier tips that have become misaligned. Do you guys think Gerber would cover these under its warranty?Wait, are you flicking it open without depressing the buttons? That shouldn't happen.

I love flicking the pliers outward. It just feels awesome. The multitool equivalent of

and you can't do it with a Leatherman! That said, I worry that they'll get too "loose" if I do this (rather than using the slider buttons).

Gerber should cover your Pro Scout. More than likely they will just send you a new one.

Mine works that way...the buttons only have to be depressed to retract the pliers.

Huh. I just had a look at all my Mp series tools. You're right, theres nothing but friction preventing the pliers from opening. I cant believe I didn't notice that before.

OK, Turn in your Man Card.

You can most certainly flick out the pliers on the OHT. Did it all day at work today.
Just outta the box, didn't even clean the grease off yet! :tu:

Hey Peacent, did you know that the shear head from your Multitasker will fit into the MP600 frame?
Heres an older pic of mine:

I have the S/S MP600 with the remgrit blade, needle nose plier head, no scissors, this was a set with the torch. I also have the BO 'Bladeless' to comply with UK knife laws. :multi:

How are you finding the bladeless? I'm a bit of a fan of it :tu:
Has anybody gotten the MP600 Bladeless yet? I was just cruising around on Gerber's site and saw it listed. Anyways, pretty cool move on Gerber's part, good for travel (probably) and should be legal in UK etc...

I was going to make a new thread but since I am at work, the restrictions the gov't puts on our network won't allow me to.
I honestly had no idea these existed. Very cool! :tu:
Maybe this is the push Leatherman needs to make a bladeless Rebar.

Just got my first two gerbers about a week ago and I love them. Got the MP600 Bladeless and the PC multi-tasker. personally, im enjoying the PC way more. Those shears are freaking incredible. I started screwing around seeing what all it could cut like butter (which is basically everything) and I ended up putting some slices in my partners shoes... uh oh :< but seriously! like butter! also the s shaped design is awesome cause i like that i can open the knife without opening the whole tool. as well as the file and saw. the mp600 is nice but at the moment i seem to have more gripes than compliments it seems. mostly since i got it to be the base for my custom modded edc tool. (although the PC may end up that format as well!)
My gripes on the mp600 bladeless. Idk whats up but i cannot "flick" it open for the life of me.. I have tried endlessly, and im sure at this point its fairly broken in. it seems I can quite be sqeezing the handles when i flick but i cant push them open a little before i flick either.. it has to be "JUST A TEENY TINY BIT more open than all the way closed tight" for it to actually slide open.. and even then i still havent managed to get it to actually flick open.. any thoughts or suggestions? bad batch? can i fix it?
thats my biggest complaint... other than that.. the remgrit saw sucks ass... i dont know what it is supposed to saw but its freaking huge.. looks like its covered in sandpaper goop way too much of it. lastly none of the tools open easily at all i have to damn near pry them open and open all the tools on that side to get the one i need. too tight i guess.
The PC on the other hand.. also cant get it to flick but it seems like thats just cause its really tight. lets see... the file falls off easy when you open it.. oh and its tools are even tighter and harder to open. idk maybe i am just a weakling but is there any fixes for this at all anyone knows of? any suggestions? not a huge fan of the PC saw or knife either if some can reccomend a good upgrade to mod on for both been searching but cant figure what the best bet to buy is..
Anyway all in all I'm definetly proud and happy i went the gerber route.. i plan to get more soon too i love them! :D

I found I was wrapping my hand around both handles and accidentally squeezing the handles together to keep it from flying across the room, which causes the pliers head to bind part of the way out (where depends on how hard you're squeezing the handles). Try just holding one handle on the sides, pinched between the thumb and fingers, and flick harder than you'd think you'd need to. You won't hurt it, and you'll be able to refine your technique as you go along.

Hmm, might as well join this club!
I received my MP600, I think it is the Pro Scout model??, for free earlier this year. I bought a Skeletool CX from a guy on eBay. He forgot to include the second flat screwdriver bit. When he sent it, he also sent me the MP600 below. For free!
He did mention a problem with the knife blade...it is in bad shape. I just tossed it into the back of my multi tool/knife drawer and forgot about it.
I recently got a Leatherman OHT and really love it. That got me to thinking about the Gerber...so I have been playing with it a bit. I am a loooong time Leatherman guy, so this is new ground for me.
I am going to start carrying it to work just to get used to it. I could use some help with that knife blade though!! LOL

Just got back home and the courier delivered this today... my Multi-lock Scout... yipeee

The plier heads on those look nice and chunky. Bet it makes it easier to flikyStill easing this one along - takes several flicks to fully deploy it, but that will improve in time.

Hi Guys this arrived yesterday from the states (Amazon.com) for a bargain price....
So was having a fondle , and I had happened to read a post a few weeks back about fakes from china, so the lack of a stamped USA logo is a major giveaway , so methinks I have a fake especially as the picture on Amazon had it stamped .
So looked for the other signs that it was a fake , and there were none (sheath quality, metal thickness and other little things mentioned in the post)
So this caught my eye...Would the fact that its made with global materials prevent them from putting the USA stamp on it ?
Bottom pic of my DET version
The fake ones are painted. Authentic ones are black oxide coat. Easy way to find out, if yours is a new one, it will stain your hands as the coating will stain every thing when they are new. Yours should be authentic, from what I know, the fake ones comes with the rubbish half serrated blade. Yours is the Wharncliffe blade.
Aren't all Gerbers fake?Show contentFake Leathermans :pommel:

:like: :like: :like: that's quite the collection there. I love all my MPs too! I am trying hard to find a BO blunt nose without the replaceable cutter. Doesn't seems to show up anymore...At some point Gerber removed the U.SA. on some of the newer models in the last couple of years. It was replaced with the cool looking MultiPlier with logo. The Sight Tool is the oldest tool I have with that particular stamp. But, the Sight Tool has U.S.A. on it. The other tools with MultiPlier don't have U.S.A. stamped on them. Must have something to do with legislation limiting origination stamping in regards to the percent of parts actually made in the U.S. I didn't acquire any BO600s until more recently, so all of my BO600s have the new stamp. It is freaking awesome, indeed!
Hey had always wanted to ask, for the regular MPs, there are 2 types of brand stamping. One is just Gerber and the other shows the Logo and multiplier. Do they reflect different time period? I am really confused by them. The ones with the full Logo and multipliers are freaking awesome!
Btw, could u check yours with the awl, any diamond coated file there?

It makes the BO600EOD and BO600ST look even more "Military Tactical". :)
Maybe someone with some more extensive knowledge of MP600 will chime in at some point.
I only have one of the BN600s without replaceable cutters, and it is the one I use the most. Gerber pliers seem to be the most robust on almost any MT. The replaceable cutters are much weaker than the original style cutters. :(
It's juat a SS BN600 w/ built in cutters. I forgot to add on the SS. :ahhh
Definitely would be nice if Gerber worked on it. Hopefully one day.

MP600SSBN and MP600BO Sight tool. :)
That is definitely the best plier head for some applications. Whenever I do lamp restorations, and you cannot use NN pliers to remove 3/8" IPS nuts(tips go into a state of torsion), the BN pliers are perfect. I used the Pinchy BN pliers for years at my last job doing antique lighting repair.
BN FTW! :D Love Gerber's blunt nosed tools, they are unique in the market. Neither SOG, LM nor Vic do proper Blunt Nosed tools :tu:

Not ugly. They are the AK 47 of the Multi Tool world imo.
Would anyone know if this model this a MP600? I know for a FACT it is 22 years old. I picked it up in Okinawa Japan around 1995 or 96.. It is one tough MT. Only markings on it is, USA, Stainless, and of course the Gerber name. The closest MT it resembles is the MP600. It is government issue...I worked in supply, we get all the good stuff :D

Nice find with the yellow MP600 :tu: - Gerber haven't made any of their coloured MP600s for many years now, but they do pop up from time to time. IIRC there was also Red, Dark Blue, Orange & Dark Green in the "Build your own Gerber" program. They also made some prototypes in other colours, but I think these never made it to large scale production. The Tan (Operation Iraqi Freedom) and Camo MP600s did make it to production (but are also uncommon).
That Yellow is lovely Sam! :salute:
I personally dont like carrying anything in a sheath on my belt and multitools keep getting sideways in my pocket so i have to add a pocket clip to everything including this 600 i had laying around. Btw Home Depot had a good deal on the 600 basic without the inserts this week... At least near me.

They come up for sale on evilbay every now and then. The handles seem to discolour/get dirty when used.
Added a 1998 Yellow factory-painted MP600. :woohoo:
The photos aren't good, because of the reflectivity of the paint, so will update those at some point.
I probably won't buy another one of their painted tools, as the paint looks too easy to chip and they cost too much for chipped finishes. :ahhh

The paint looks pretty good on the one I received, but you can see some chipping in the slide rail. Just from being opened a few times. :ahhh
It would be awesome if Gerber rereleased the yellow MP600 in cerakote with BO pliers & tools(bumblebee special..hehe).
:iagree: have to agree on the under ratedness. The way they are constructed seems to make people, who aren't tool guys, think they are junk. Mainly because of the rattle in the plier head, and of course, the stupid fakes that are everywhere make people think MP600s are junk.

Sweet finds, Sam! :like::hatsoff:
New addition:
Early Prototype MP600 with Maroon finish. This is a genuine example, with Simonds marked file and pliers head with sprue marks.
And a couple of shots with the early yellow/black/SS MP600 and red-cerakote Snap-On SMT97R(MP600 chasis/pliers and special toolset).
Nice MP600s :tu: :hatsoff:Thank you, Greg!
Is the finish on the Maroon prototype some kind of hard finish (not soft, easily chipped paint) ?
I only just noticed the locking tabs on the Snap-On are different to the regular MP600s (and I have 3 of the Snap-On ones, got the first one back in 2016 ! )
Wow! I really :like: the colour here! The maroon looked terrible in the ebay listing! Congrats again for the new addition! :twak: on myself!!

Alright. After a lot of restoration work, I'd say the cutter head is at 98% of being unused.
Here is a photo of the 600 Cable broken down. Note the heavily dinged up cutter.
After fine-filing(diamong coated needle files) the cutters back to the right profile, I replicated the Gerber finish on the jaws as closely as I can, but I haven't figured out a way to make it perfect yet. Close enough for this 600Cable Cutter to go into the collection. :)
The rest of the tools were wire-wheeled(varying brass or fine steel wheel) and oiled before reassembly.

Thank you, Nick!
Thank you much, Sam!
I feel the same about the Fisherman tools you bought. Just super cool!
When I saw the listing for the Cable Cutter, I bought it without hesitation. Thankfully the tool turned out collection worthy. No parts needed changing out and the cutter head looks good. :)
Exact same thought when I saw the fisherman. But so far when I see the cable cutter on the bay, it's always price at a premium.. Even when usually my thinking "is buy once and get it over with" , its still too high.. :-\
Indeed. The Cable Cutters are usually insane. I paid $77 shipped for mine, so it was a decent deal. But, that being said, I put quite a bit of labor into the restoration. :ahhh
Hopefully you can find one soon! And I hope you don't have to put as much work into it as I did on mine. :ahhh
I hope so too. I dun mind restorations at all. As long as the rust does not set in too bad. Sometimes I buy beat up MT just for fun of cleaning them up.. :) they have to be at a fitting price of course.
Very true. I always go off of the condition of the plier head(if the head is salvageable) and the handle appearance.
I'm sure you know about the Gerber spotted fever as well.
I did take a gamble in the cutter tool. But, the tools as a whole had little noticeable Gerber fever and the fold out tools were unused. :woohoo:
Yeah agree. Everything else can be easily replaced other than the pliers, in your case the precious cutter. The place I am at is known for humility... Not only Gerber fevers. Everything fevers.. :facepalm:Indeed! :ahhh
Indeed! :ahhh
About the Gerber fever, have you figured out a way to remove some of the spots without disturbing the satin finish yet, Sam? I've got a couple of early 600s that are in great shape, but have the fever. Whenever I try to remove the spots, the satin turns to polished spots. :ahhh
There's only one way to deal with the spot rusting.. The low light treatment. Thanks, Sam! Honest and humorous.
Store all the MPs in low light area. Clean only under low light. U will not see the spots under low light. If u still sees them, you are doing it wrong again. Go lower light.
The problem with the Gerber Cable Cutter head is that the cutters were designed to cut very soft copper cables, so as soon as someone uses them on any kind of steel (doesn't have to be hard) it damages the cutting edge, and they aren't simple to re-contour to restore the cutting edge.Thank you! Good information, Greg! :salute:
IMO they are really only fit for shelf queen duties ie for looking at as a different and unusual MT (and the buying public agreed, which is why Gerber no longer sells them). They look impressive with those great big cutter jaws, but weren't so good in actual use.
:like: someone had been really busy eh. :DThanks, Sam!
I had the very same model camo Pro Scout and the paint so easily chipped off that I was left with a steel one. No biggie - it was a high quality plier and I used the heck out of it. I’m still in awe of how tough these pinchies actually are :hats off:
Thanks, Sam!
Busy indeed. :woohoo:
So true. Gerber painted finishes are really crappy, but the tool is a beast for sure. A lot of people don't know how much abuse a Pinchy can take. :ahhh
Very nice work, Sam! :like:
Excellent custom 600, AW! :tu:
They do still make the needle nose in non-replaceable, but not the BN.
I had never considered the Strata combo too, but it makes sense seeing it there. :)
Early MP600 Blunt Nose NIB came today. :woohoo:

May I rejoin?!

And thank you!
The thing is that since now I'm working in a school setting, this is as "rugged" as I can go!
So I’ve just got a Bladeless MP600 and I’m really looking forward to the release of the Gerber Straightlace and Wingtip slipjoint knives. They are just what I need to pair with the MP600 for a perfect UK legal EDC. Hope I don’t have to wait too long before they are availableHere's to hoping they become available sooner than later.

Looking good, Chief!

Very cool. I love the awl, that is a really useful tool. Looks like it could ream/drill a nice hole in wood, punch a hole in a belt, and also be used to sew in a pinch. The awl is indeed pretty good. :)
The fisherman is cool too. File has a fish hook sharpener groove. Is it a diamond file?
I have a sight tool on the way, actually. How rare is that? I was going to mod it, but if it’s super rare and expensive I might not.
Charles.
Think I can handle that request, Charles. :)
Some of the rare ones have small differences that are minor, but indicate the age/stage of the Multi-Lock/MP600 series. Several of the rare tools have the same basic toolset as the regular 600s, but several have differences like an awl, blade exchanger, hook pick, combo blade, scissors, etc, etc.

I snagged a near mint black oxide mp400 for the paltry sum of $9 (shipped!) to use as a donor for the scissors i added to the sight tool mod above. Well, I happened to have a spare silver mp600 handle and the needle nose I removed from the sight tool. So I moved the parts from the mp400 over to this tool, and then I went ahead and made it bladeless and added a file and the scraper from the sight tool. I had some silver scissors so I tossed them in too.
Then of course I had to add a pocket clip as well. Trying a new one this time. It’s a third the cost of the clips I’ve been using ($10 shipped vs $23+$6 shipping) and it’s black, which works well on this contrasting Tool. It’s not as nice as the titanium clips I’ve been using, but on a bitsa tool like this, made from other tools’ leftover parts, it works.
Thing is, except for those silver scissors, this is really nice now!
Charles.
I like that extra driver! And the saw is slick too. Too bad you had to sacrifice a flick to make it though. Those aren’t easy to come by.Thanks, Charles!
Charles.
Nice job/mod gerleatherberman!!! :like: :gimme:Many thanks, Juan!
Actually, with those scissors, the stock file, combo pry tool, and awl, plus a saw blade in place of the OHO knife blade, the center drive would be damn near perfect.:like: :iagree:

Is the Gerber forum always this quiet, or is it that my tool is plain Jane?
Hi Roc, Congrats on the new MP600. The Gerber forum could seem quite right now, but there are quite a lot of members that carry and use their MP600s. It could be that there is no Gerber multitools challenge going right now. I know in the past there has been ones for MPs and the Center Drive earlier this year. Post up some pics when you get your MP600 in hand.
JonesE
Alright...I'll start making some noise for our pal Roc! :tu:
And this is one of two Basics I have; so, plain jane too!!! :D
Really liking that Zebra...
Is the Gerber forum always this quiet, or is it that my tool is plain Jane?It is the Gerber board. Even though some of us carry Gerbers, this site is generally Victorinox and Leatherman dominant. Like JonesE said, it usually gets jumping in the Gerber board with challenges, and then sometimes collection stuff.

My Gerber Black Oxide Duo.Nice setup! :like:
There are out there the loki wrenches (from member lokimobile); I made this from a cheap bit set: a 1cm/3/8" bit which I reprofiled the tip to fit two opposing notches from the pivot bolt (found on the metric and the imperial rulers). Remember to heat the pivot to loosen the thread lock ("Loktite").You do not need a second bit, as the female end of the pivot fits inside notches in the handles and won't turn. I place a drop of blue Locktite on the bolt's threads for reassembly; blue holds fine, and you don't need to heat it up to break it free. Simple and pretty effective. Good luck with your moddin' and hope to see pictures soon!Good idea there, Juan! :iagree:
Thanks, gerleatherberman!
:hatsoff:
Thanks Juan! I think I’ll attempt to make my own too. Just won an ST, so I have the philips that I wanted. :woohoo::woohoo:
Good fit, with pocket for bit kit, and elastic band for light/marker!! Nice pairing, Roc.
:like:
Don't worry much about the cutters, unless you plan to use them as your primary cutters (which I wouldn't recommend), or back ups (which I wouldn't recommend either!); mines have been fine for copper wires (electronics, house wiring, both single and multistranded), and steel wires for up to cloth hanger; for cloth wire, I notch it with the cutters and then use the pliers to "bend-cut it" . Not a single nick or shattered cutter. Mind you that I may use them once or twice weekly. If you're mindful of what they were adapted for, you'll enjoy them for long. Thanks for the feedback on the cutters! I guess I can just switch the plier head out when needed. I only use them for stranded copper, so I think I’ll be safe either way.
Having said that, until Gerber makes replacement cutters out of tool steel or 154cm SS, my integral cutters will be the best of Gerber's.
Roc, how about exchanging the sight tool for a saw blade exchanger? Or scissors and an awl? Or ...I'll let others chime in now.
Swapped out the wharn blade for the older version blade. Surprisingly easy to do.One of my favorite upgrades for the MP600! :like:
Nice job, Roc! :tu:
Have you considered grinding an angle to the tip of one of the small flat driver and make a "mini awl"? That way, you get a "new" tool in the set.
Thank you, Chief. As long as it's a workday, it has to be bladeless. Liking the ability to exchange saw blades! :like::cheers:
Family portrait.Nice collection there! :like:

How rare are the mp600s with awls? I know the fisherman is a hard find, but occasionally I’ve seen a couple of regular mp600s without the small driver, with an awl in its place. How rare are these in silver? Or black oxide? Not all that rare. It is the Sportsman version of the 600. Uncommon, but not rare. The Sportsman is often overlooked by collectors though.
Charles.

Well, it has been close to 6 months now since my ownership to this great tool. Sadly, and as almost everyone knows, it is now just time to wait "for it to happen"; one of my tungsten cutters is nicked from hitting the other while I was pulling tight a wire twist and, pliers slipped and closed upon each other. Although still functional, I'd guess it is now a thing of "when" than rather "if" they'll explode! Just ordered replacements (dang they're gettin' expensive!). Ranting aside, here's the "BOD" (Black Oxide Duo) with a new "partner" just in :mail::Oh no

Each blade has 3 sides right? So you can rotate it until all 3 sides are damaged. Seems pretty convenient to me.
Indeed, but, once tungsten carbide is stressed (and the nick is at the bolt grip end; and the brittleness of the metal) it's just a matter of waiting. But thanks anyway! :tu:
Here's mine. I carried it daily for years. My faithful fishing companion!!Ok, that sheath just rocks! :like:
Sorry to keep asking but, does it has a belt clip or loop; can it be scout/ horizontal carry? Of it can be scout carry, it IS a perfect sheath! :drool:Here’s a pic of the back.

MP600 Blunt Nose, no carbide inserts, plastic tool lock tabs, metal slide buttons.
Anyone know when they were made in this setup? Early 2000's?
Nope, no scissors at all :DNice :like:
And I wouldn't call the straight blade a true clip point...
The tool does look mostly unused.
The Philips driver shows some signs of use and the plain edge blade was rolled and showed a nick, but that's already solved :D
If you were to dispose of the scissors, let me know as I'd be interested.

It's alright. Although I'd like to see pictures of your "Master Scout"!! :multi:
Today’s carry
Well, I found something quite-surprising-to-me today; as I cleansed my blunt nose (the one from THIS post: https://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,52129.msg2052377.html#msg2052377), I found out that Gerber is now stamping the production date inside one of the handles, specifically towards the tools' end at the can opener's side! I find this a good production improvement, as the etched date stamp on my SS NN is slowly fading and is almost gone (even though it is a 2017 model). I'm sure that this will make model dating better in the future. Just wanted to share that tidbit of info. with you all. :salute:Tidbits are worth quite a bit, thank you
After my very favorable impression of the original 'Mr. Pinchy' Multi-PlierNice photos on the two!
I decided I must get an MP600 to explore this Gerber product a little more, and to get an objective view of the differences.
So I am pleased to add my name to this club, with the acquisition of an MP600 Blunt nose. :salute:
This model is an early version (circa 1998-2003), as it still carries the Simonds file, has the drop-point PE blade and pre-tungsten carbide cutters. From what I read, the cutters are not popular, so I'm happy to skip this feature. And I'm not a fan of the newer wharncliffe blade. So a few observations...
Is there a by chance a Mr. Pinchy MAIMING thread? Pretty sure many folks have pics of the “love bites”... ummm in the dead of night... and good stories to go along with them : ;)Nice :like:

Real multitool use is when you improvise to get the job done, and the multitool does the job without skipping a beat! :like:
Rdub934, that's one wonderfully, tasteful mod you've got there!!! Loving that you were able to usean early blunt nose (integrated cutters) pliers head and, are the scissors and saw from a Diesel!?!I'd guess that you have now a very functional and useful tool. Kudos to you, Sir!

OT- Please excuse me if I'm out of place but, are you planning on doing something with the "released" pliers head?
Nice combo rockysan!Thank you. The only time I feel I wish I was still working is so I can carry all the cool stuff.
:tu: :like:
Well, you can still carry the neat stuff; there will always be "someone in need", or "chores" around the house like, taking a fan apart or changing a wall switch plate ( just to use the tools)!!!   :rofl:There's always that. Can I also wear my hard hat and safety vest? On second thought, that would probably scare the heck out of my wife.
Well, today I was able to release from its duty my homemade C-clip; the replacement just arrived, had its belly polished and, had occupied its rightful place. My OCD can now be at ease!
So you polished the bottom of the clip to make it slide better ?
Hello everybodyWelcome MTSebastian to :MTO:
I ask for admission to the MP600 owners' club I currently have 3.
The tool with the selfmade clip is my favorite. However, I don't like the shape of the blades. So I exchanged the older model.
I also filed jigsaw blades myself and built a bit holder

Good day to everyone at MT.O, and your family; hope all are safe and sound.Hey Juan, can you tell me more about your Accessoires? I'm interested in your jigsaw blade. How do you make them fit?
For today, it's my SS NN MP600 and its kit, still using my replacement C-clip from this post: https://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,84221.0.html
So far so good ...
Looking back, sorry that maybe I misunderstood you! :facepalm:Hey, thanks for your answers! Your knife mod in a bladeless is cool! I spontaneously come up with an idea. You could make a fork and a spoon to fit into the tool holder that would be perfect for camping!
If you're talking about the jigsaw blades from the SS Mp's kit, those are t shanked blades. I ground the nubs off, measure carefully for shortening it and marking where it will ride (another alternative would be to remove one of the tools and trace shape); using a 1/4" cylindrical grinding stone (again on the Dremel) I ground out "the hook". This is so that it fits over the female pivot post, between handle and can opener. Mind you, not all blades have the neccessary width and, will not fully lock ( it will not close on you during use because it rides against the chassis/handle like a regular tool and there is some resistance if you try to fold it in without operating the sliding lock). If you have any other questions or inquiries let me know. Hope that this now helps! :multi:
I did that too. :t[/s]u:Not this...
[/s]
Charles.
I did that too. Just a quick hit with a dremel and I got an extra 2mm of space to slide them in further.
Charles.

Keeping up with the "boredom binge", I now have a plain edge blade on my Bladeless; following the results from my serrated edge venture, I bought a Dollar Store paring knife to make a pseudo spear point knife blade ( the spine has no grinding to the point, it merely mimics the curvature of the belly) and, here's the result!Nice set up Juan. keep on hacking

Final mod for my sight tool. Added scissors from an mp400, awl from a center drive, and filled out the remainder of the tools from like-new spares. Swapped plier head with a brand new blunt nosed tool, as that is my preferred plier. Pocket clip is a zero tolerance titanium clip from eBay. This has the sexy new style lock sliders and the sight tool’s long Phillips and extra large blade.Your Mods are really great style
I kept the blade instead of a saw in this one. All mp600s should come with this blade. There is no excuse for the tiny one that is in 99% of them.
Charles.
If anyone has an mp600 with broken tools or wants to mod, I have lots of extra parts for trade. This sounds great! Can you send me a pm please?
Charles.
Anyone got a line on inexpensive carbide cutters? I need one for this gem.
Handle swap, custom pocket clip, awl from a sight tool, scissors and combo blade from an mp400.
Just needs that one carbide cutter to be finished.
Charles.
This one is a bit milder. It’s my first ever multitool. A MP600 pro scout I snagged on eBay for $14. I’ve since made it bladeless and swapped in the missing large flat driver. Also turned the end of the file into a gasket scraper. No clip on this one yet either, but it’ll have one eventually.
Charles.

Charles.
Hope you like it as I do mine; it's a workhorse of a tool, that can withstand abuse (albeit the replaceable cutters which tend to selfdestroy at the least provocation, and the medium flat driver located at the tip of the bottle opener). Its jaws open wider than most and you'll still be able to hold the handles one handed. Also, unlike the Leatherman Rebar Knifeless, it is a true knifeless as you can remove the Remgrit or replacement blade installed and carry it to places where even a saw blade is a no-go. Last-but-not-least, the flicking deployment; a great one-handed pliers deployment with cool fidget factor!
The link to the little machine shop inserts is the correct one ( as noted here https://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,84840.0.html) but, if you don't mind me asking, why take the tools out just to have the pliers head; you will be defeating the purpose of a multi tool. Wouldn't you be better off having dedicated pliers?,they'll be stronger and cheaper (anyway, just MHHO).
i also use the lm adapter. It fits perfectly and i have 2 of those anyway. Tried it, it was like a glove, no need to buy something else. On the other hand, i took a chance on the cutters. They've cut a wire that i had doubts upon, without chipping or breaking. So, they're not completely trash at all. Harder/thicker... i'm not sure i'll use a mt anyway (toolbelt for actual work). It was a 2mm steel wire. Not very hardened but by no means soft as butter. Still can't upload photos, so... you'll have to take my word for it. The other mt's i've tested on harder stuff in order to see if they can do the job. Warranty might be fine, but if you have only one tool and need to do something and that tool breaks, warranty is just a meaningless word at that point :D
I'm waiting for them to have it in stock again. Insurance, if i break the originals. And now after i played a little it is definitely only the blade, the part that i'm changing. But not entirely. I want to make an awl/reamer/punch out of it.[/b]
[/b]Thank you!
Now this sounds like a great idea! :tu:

Since I started doing slight mods to the MP Basic after chipping the mini driver, decided to add a saw. Not wanting to take apart any of my other tools, and having an unused Wave add-on saw blade, decided to modify it and reprofiled it with the Dremel following the SE blade's profile. It fits pretty well between the can opener and chassis (albeit it won't fit with an anticlumping washer) and, so far so good.Well done!
Either will work; so does plain mineral oil (personal preference as it is a food-safe lube), from the expensive Victorinox to the one found in most pharmacies/drug store/homegoods stores. I've heard also gun oil, 3-in-1, Frog Lube, and others.
Needed to clarify that the one I'd recommend from homegoods stores is the one used for conditioning wood cutting boards and/or utensils, and not the one for honing knives or such.
Don't sweat it SirVicaLot; from the label/SDS, most cutting board oils are in fact food-grade-human-safe mineral oil. For it's price, I prefer the medical/laxative-grade, as it performs the same but at a cheaper price. My pharmacy bought bottle has been going strong for five years lubing multiools and garden tools without failure, rust, or "funny tastes" (and appears to be enough still for another five!)
Good one, Surge. :tu::cheers: :salute: :tu:
Used my only Gerber (scissors) to cut up an expired credit card (TBH it was hard work) ::)
I believe that, those cards are surprisingly hard to cut. Good job for your MP though :tu::hatsoff:
:hatsoff:
I used my Surge last time and no issues for the scissors there ;)
SirVic, that's one nice picture you have there; and to think that we're already in the low 80's (or mid 20's, depending on units read)... :dd: :tu:

I calls it, like I sees it :dunno:
Heeyyyy...not fair! :pok:
Nice pictures SirVicaLot and Hevy; and that looks like a complete portable kit there! :tu:Thanks guys!

Still loving my MP(s). Great modding platform

That, and the many models between the series with nice features to mix and match (blunt nose, needle nose, both with integral or replaceable cutters; scissors, awl, plethora of screwdrivers, short or long shank phillips SD, blade exchanger,...), ease of disassembly and to work with, the ability to accept tools from other series (MP400, Suspension, Suspension NXT), affordable prices, and quite bulletproof are some of the reasons of why it is such a good mod fodder and one of my favorites.
Congratulations on your find, 3stars1Sun; I think the blunt nose with integrated cutters pliers head is one of best from all of the mt's, second to the Surge/Super Tool 300 ones. As if to open or not, it's your call, pal; I believe tools are meant to be used so, I'd open them. Also, looking that the blister package is not pristine/A-1, that would affect its "collector's value" and it looks that it is still found rather inexpensive.
Do as you think will bring you the most enjoyment! Undeniable that it is a :multi: that I :like: very much so, happy tooling! :tu:
:iagree: Open it! It is a tool, it is meant to be used :tu:
If you intend to use it then open it, but if it is only for your collection then leave it in the packaging.
Nice :tu:
So, I had knee surgery on Monday and have had a bit of time on my hands. I took an old MP600 BO, sanded/polished/notched the side of the frame, recontoured the plier head, added a pocket clip, and threw in tools from the MP600 BO, eFect, Suspension, and Suspension NXT using hardware from an MP700 Urban Legend. I had one more spot left, so I drilled out the Simonds file from a Version 5 Multi-Plier and reshaped the pivot a bit. I really like the results...my second bladeless tool!
I have to give credit to Sam Lim Shuang Ping from the Multitool.org FB site...he posted pics of one of his MP600s that inspired me!
I think I'm in the right place?

Nope; both my blunt-nose and my Basic have it only in one, next to the can opener.
It is also my understanding that the last two numbers of the code are the year, but the first three might be model number; all my MP600's (6) begin with 087, while the NXT's (2) begin with 915, Dime with 466, and EAB Lites(5) with 897.
Just got a new Mp600 in black and was surprised to see they add the black oxide finish to the serrated blade after the edge has been ground. Never seen this before on a blade

That was my thought exactly but, at least in my examples, all three of mine were quite sharp; not affected by the oxidation process!
Me too! It was supposed to be delivered yesterday
Finally! It needs some TLC but I finally have a 600 :ahhh
Thanks Dunc! It has a broken can opener but that's not a big deal. It has virtually no wear on it. It was right to open the tools, so I gave it a good cleaning and some oil and it works well. I was wondering how to date it. The replaceable cutters made me think it was a later model. I knew someone that picked up one of these in the Army and never carried anything else. Nice looking Strongarm by the way :tu:
This isn't the best picture, but this is the only numbers on it that I can find.

After looking at some of the older posts here, I think the previous owner converted the can opener to an awl. I'll say this it's definitely sharp!

That's in fantastic shape Marlowe!
I'm no Gerber expert by a very long shot, but I believe you have the Multiplier, which is the predecessor of the MP600.

Looks great Vicman! :like:
:ahhh
Thank you Vicman! That's an MP 600 Basic I ordered for my son who is also a participant in our challenge, Spartan 19. The biggest difference is in the cutters, which are non replaceable.
That's great Vicman!!
Vicman, you've a great start there; they're both great tools and that long screwdriver is the best from Gerber! :2tu:
Congratulations. :hatsoff:
I'm not participating in "The Spur of the Moment Challenge" (https://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,91660.0.html) but, this would've made a great action shot:
Spoke head- 1, carbide cutters- 0;
2nd round: Spoke head-0, HSS cutters- 1 FOR THE WIN!! :woohoo: :2tu:
Thank you, Vicman, it sure is!

Happy Holidays to everyone!I have one similar (needle nose) I don't like the original knife blade, it feels so thin and flimsy. What are my options?
Here to share my newest: an-almost -all-original, hardly-used (I'd say the combo blade and nothing else much) blunt nosed Pro Scout down to the OE Remgrit blade; almost, because of my own stupidity I snapped the spring holder in two trying to "make it perfect" after resharpening and straightening the blade, cleaning and oiling the tool.
But, being desperate and compulsive, decided to cobble up a replacement out of an old and unused stainless water bottle. Shown are the results and, as tested, performs quite well until I can get an OE one. what you all think?
Welcome BigShep and, let me say that's one nice "hand-me-down" you've there! As for the blade, it might look flimsy but, it is quite good and sturdy for a multi tool knife; perhaps give it a chance? Thanks for the info! I will look into the options you mention. I will likely leave it as it is as I usually carry another blade anyway and this one doesn't hurt to leave in it's original home.
If after all you'd like to still replace it, your "plug in" options are: newer/later MP blade (Wharncliffe style; thicker, and same choices between combi blade and plain edge ones. Although they're supposed to be the same alloy, does not have the same edge retention as yours), an earlier Multi Lock or same vintage plain edge or fully serrated blade; a Diesel blade might work, as it looks to be the same as in the discontinued DET model or in the Snap On version. Another option is to go bladeless, as I did a clone of a Bladeless model by replacing the combo blade with asmalllarge flat driver (and the replaceable cutters head; here it is https://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,52129.msg2456899.html#msg2456899). After this, I think your options are custom ones. Good luck and again, welcome!
Not a bad couple to have though! :like: :like:Agreed! :)
I'm a little afraid to leave thoughtless comments, because... The administrator decided to award me the title of spam for one post, but your couple is not bad! :)
