These are so much fun. :like:
I remember a previous Advent Calendar had a small ratchet with an in-line bit driver as well. I've not seen it sold separately but I imagine it would be quite expensive.

Hope everything goes well.

Day 22

After all the whining about the Cadet, I decided to give the 301 "just" Stockman a try when I saw a decent deal on it. I love this size, roughly equivalent to Case's 47 pattern. I still think the spey is more of a modified drop point than a true spey, but you can at least see them going for it here. This one has a much nicer action than my old 303, or the one or two 301s I handled in shops. Not sure if you just have to get lucky with a good one or what. Case gives you a smidge longer blade, and I prefer their rounded bolsters, but Buck's blades are a little thicker. They awlso ship with a nicer edge. The Case is definitely better looking, but I think the Buck will hold up better. Overall, I'm still a PA boy at heart, but I'm going to enjoy putting this in my pocket.

Interesting. I'm a big case fan myself. Buuuut I'm a solid buck stockman person. (Although a Case 18 stockman is dear to my heart) With the Buck you get straight non-crimped blades each riding on their own spring, and it's just about the same thickness as a case stockman. And as lot of people dislike the relatively weak springs on the 301s but when your hands are wet or it's freezing cold, it's a lot less nerve-wracking to open then some other bear traps.

That being said, if I had to pick a slipjoint to carry, a Case 54 trapper is probably the one I'll reach for first.

Anyways...

Day 22

Buck 112 helping with dinner to the charigin of my wife, really just slicing open the packaging, which always gets an eyeroll or an occasional "we have kitchen knives you know"

I guess I didn’t post it in here but the Mrs got some credit of some sort, so she let me get a few things, so I went with a new journal and a few pads, (only 3, not what you see) but there suppose to be dotted graph, so I can either write or draw, and a new pencil, I’m so tired of carrying a pen and not using it for a few days and the thing drys out, so, why not a pencil? It came with two refills, I even tried for a ruler but I ended up going over my limit, so that will have to wait.. but I have to start writing absolutely everything down, just today I thought of two movies I want to watch, and like five times I remembered them, yet when I went to think of the one for the sixth time only five min after remembering it I can’t think of what it was, yet it’s now been three hours and I still can’t remember it!

Nice little ratchet set, I got something similar a few posts back, haven’t used it yet but the case it came it fits perfectly in one of the pockets of the tool bag I got!

Can alox scales be swapped?
Yes, but it’s a good deal more involved than swapping cellidor or nylon scales.

Because alox scales are pinned to the knife, the ends of the pins would have to be carefully drilled out.  Then the scales could be removed.  New pin stock (or screws) would be needed to assemble the new SAK.

IIRC, some folks have tried starting with the basic silver alox and painting or otherwise coloring it, with varying success, so that might be an option as well.

That looks like something Gerber would make. You know what I mean?

Yup, sure does.  It reminds me of the Gerber Crucial.
