New to Forum, Need Help Identifying This Knife
on: August 19, 2024, 04:47:52 PM
Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum but really enjoying it. I don't consider myself a real collect but do love interesting and unusual SAKs. Here is one I found at an Estate Sale a couple months back. This is a 5 layer 91MM SAK with a Metal Saw and Chisel. At first I thought it was a weird variation of the Mountaineer Lite without an LED, but that doesn't make sense. Any help identifying this would be greatly appreciated.  [ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

Welcome to the forum

I'm a bit stumped with this one - I'm only seeing 4 layers unless there's a wood saw stashed away somewhere?

I can't see anything on the sakwiki that corresponds in the 4 layer section so maybe you have a modded model there?

I'm sure someone much more knowledgeable will be along soon  :tu:

Welcome aboard!

Like mags, I have to ask, are we seeing all the tools open in these pics?  Your post says five layers but I only see four layers, i.e. blades, openers, scissors, and metal file/saw?

If in fact there is a wood saw not shown, but all other tools are visible, than you have an older Ranger from the period after the introduction of the chisel but before the introduction of the hook.

You guys are right, there was a wood saw in there. I just missed it because there was no notch where I use my thumb nail to open it...

Looks like this is a 1986 Ranger from before the Hook tool was added.

Thanks for pointing that out, I appreciate it...
