Katana

My Musashi katana finally made it here... too late/tired to take photos now. Meanwhile here's the certificate to warm you up.
So excited... wanted a katana of my own for like 25 years...

We need all the details (in metrics). Center of percussion, center of gravity and the whole works... :D

Nice, nothing quite compares to a katana blade.
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

Not the best day for photos (cloudy, phone camera and noone to assist me.. still):

Fancy stand and saya:

Very nice tsuka with real rayskin and good cotton wrappings:

Nice brass kashira:

Gorgeous tsuba - one of the prettiest I ever saw, neither too elaborate, nor too simple (golden paint is peeling though  :( )

The sword - see the very pretty, natural hamon - it's quite sharp, paper-cutting, but not hair shaving... will do a proper test when it gets warmer outside):

"China" writing on the Habaki is fortunately gone.. only small Musashi and China writings on the guard.

Sharp, strong tip (just right to stab a peasant who disrespects you ::) )

Feels good in hand, though heavier than I expected. By the way, it's perfectly centered.

Hamon shining:

Hamon pattern is visible throught the blade (you can see the water tempering path quite clearly):

Here it is next to my playtoys: the shinai and the bokken. It is very similar in size and shape to the bokken, but far heavier:

Pictures with me and it and actual usage test to follow.

So far I'm very happy with it, it is a gorgeous thing and far better quality than the price would suggest (no real complaints so far, apart from the paint on the tsuba). Here a naturally tempered katana costs almost 1000 USD so to think you can get this for 100 USD is mindboggling.

Thanks go to Chako for pointing in the right direction and to James from Swords of the East for the discounts, and awesome shipping support: http://www.swordsoftheeast.com/musashiwheelkatana.aspx

Corwyn, just out of curiosity, I always think it is edge up, tsuka to the left(in peace time or not in active-use)?  :pok:

Noted.

Checked: http://www.chenessinc.com/display.htm

Fixed:

Didn't know that.. it's just that on most stands I saw it was the other way around, and it felt more logical... still between logic and tradition, we'll go with tradition  :P

Thanks for the tip, mate.

no worries, I am not a samurai sword experts, but have seen it too many times presented in this way to remember it.  If I remember correctly, they are usually display the way they are worn/drawn, and IIRC the sword is worn edge down usually when riding horses(so the momentum would slide the weapon out of its sheath, which make sense to me).
