A First For Me -- BYPX
on: May 21, 2024, 03:11:51 AM
I love the Pioneer X and have numerous specimens, most stock, but some custom.   I got a great deal on a BYSAK recently and decided to commission a BYPX out of it.  Found a beater PX on eBay to act as a scissors donor and voila!  The birth year PX was born.

Note please the hollow pin was carefully re-created, making a swivel bail possible.  Also, the knife was built with brass liners.  I love it!   Wish I could claim credit for the build, but the hollow pivot was over my head modding-skill-wise.  So I contacted my old buddy Simyo and he took care of me.  :)

Pics!

Beautiful SAK! What's a BYSAK? For the uninitiated amongst us...

Birthday year, I believe, and wow, that really is a gorgeous knife. Same age as me, too. What’s your month? Mine’s June.

Yep, BY = Birth Year.

Generally applies to Soldiers, since the year of manufacture is marked on the blade.

I don't think I could bring myself to drill apart a 1978 Soldier unless it was in terrible condition. Yet that is a very cool idea for a mod! :tu:

Thanks guys!   1965 isn't a particularly hard year to find (especially if you just want a user/carrier) and I have both red scaled and silver scaled specimens in mint condition, as well as both Wengers and Vx's all from 1965 in my permanent collection.  There wasn't anything particularly special about this knife and the price was right, so I decided to build my BYPX.

@Jazz, I'm a March baby.  :)

Ah, very cool. I've been looking for a birth year (1990) Standard Issue/Soldier for a looong time now... Haven't had much luck with it unfortunately... Found one for two of my brothers, 1998 and 2004, but not for myself quite yet :(.
