Leatherman Fuse
on: March 25, 2009, 12:25:58 AM
The Fuse is a great under rated multitool, but has anyone modded one out and made even better by removing that lanyard ring and spacer and putting a useful tool in there.
I was looking at mine today, and thought I could move the scissors over to were the lanyard ring and spacer is, giving me a spot to put a full size tool, were the scissors should be....make any sense..
All I need is a file or saw from the blast and I would be all set.
Can you buy parts from Leatherman???
Anyone done something like this, and can you post a photo....... :climber:

Fuse is a great tool.  Day to day I rarely need either the file or the saw, so it's my most often carried Multi (other than my SAKs of course).  The thickness of the legs and the lower profile when being carried suits me far more than the bigger Blast.  Also, being left handed, I don't see the advantage of moving up to the Wave, Charge Surge etc.  I admit that's just me though.

The 830472 doesn't show up on any of my order forms.  Weird.  LM is good about making tools which are available but dealers never know about them.  Maybe that is one of them.  Next time I talk to customer service I'll ask them about it.

I've never seen a Fuse for sell anywhere except on the web. Plenty of Kicks and Blasts though.

Has anyone actually ever tried to board a plane with a knife-less Fuse? I'd be scared TSA would have a new toy.

I wouldn't. The scissors and the file (metal saw) would get flagged. It's more intended for workplace regulations that the TSA.

Nah - the tool is the basic Fuse, but has the factory engraved "Operation Iraqi freedom" on the handles. The sheath is quite unique though.

It did have sand in it though when I got it!

If you have a Sports Authority near you they usually carry Fuses along with Squirts, Kicks, Waves, Blasts, and Surges.  They have a pretty good selection actually.

We carry 3 Fuse models in our store; regular, knifeless and BO.  I suppose that doesn't do anyone any good unless you're in Spokane, WA though if you're looking to see them in person.

There's a thread on EDCF where a guy's knifeless fuse confiscated. Then again the airport nazis are so liberal on rules you never know if it's because they liked it more than the owner did.

Last time I had something TSA didn't like, I extracted my laptop from my laptop bag and checked the bag with the forbidden item.
This was at SFO, and they gave me a pass to get to the head of the line when I came back after checking the bag, so the extra time wasn't too bad.

An MT-sized padded envelope with enough stamps to mail it home would seem to be a useful travel accessory.

I have done that many times when flying out of ATL since there is a post office 100 feet from security.
