Lightweight Fullsize or Juice sized multi's
on: March 29, 2007, 07:43:34 PM
With the warm weather starting to show up here in Michigan, I'm starting to dust off my backpacking gear and get ready for some camping.  I've decided to try to go fairly lightweight this year, and I'm looking to add a lightweight multi to my setup.

I'd definately need phillips and flat head screwdrivers and I'd prefer some scissors.  A file would be nice, but not a necessity.  They would need to be needlenose pliers, mainly because if I have to repair my stove in the field there are some small spaces I need to get into.  Other than that, I'm just looking for something really lightweight.

Have you considered the Gerber MP 600 Multiplier?

I always thought of it as a nice lightweight tool that was great for backpacking, and at just under 8oz it is one of the lightest full sized tools.

I like the Juice models, but for out in the woods I think I prefer a bigger tool because it's much harder to grab another tool if the Juice isn't enough, you know?

I hadn't considered the Gerber.  I admit, I've never really cared for them.  What's the size of that thing when it's folded up?

Also, is there a chance that I could get a picture of the pliers on that next to a Spirit?

It's a little bulkier than many others when folded because of the way it's set up but I don't find that's too much of a detriment.

Unfortunately I only have one Gerber and it's visiting another member right now so I really can't take any comparison pics.

Maybe one of our other members would snap a pic or two of it?

You may want to look at the Leatherman PST II..it's discontinued  but can still be found look on Ebay,or check the sale and trade forums here. It's lighter than of the most Juice series, has a very pocket friendly shape, and has scissors and file, slotted for sharpening fish hooks.

Or did you mean a picture of them unfolded?

Hehe... I meant unfolded.  But that picture helps too.
