I've thought of another "test". It's called "Who can get an edge back on DaveK's Kershaw A100"? Stupid bloody thing  >:(

Seriously, if one of you sharpening wizards could sort it out for me - I might even start liking you :D

I used to come here a lot.

Hey Dave do you have a Sharpmaker? I can't remember if you have ever said  if not you need to get 1 :o :D Of course there are some that might say get the Lansky system but I can't say that because I don't have 1 of those ::) :D

Hey  maybe Ben could give it a go :D

I do, and I get on pretty well with it. But I'm not experienced enough to know what I need to do to get an edge on this blade. If I carry on it will only be about 1/8" thick (and stiil blunt), so I think I'll get some expert help if I can!
I used to come here a lot.

it always helps to rewatch the DVD for me ;) but I would put a 30 degrees back bevel on it first with all 4 steps then do all 4 steps with the 40 degree bevel and as for how many times I would try 50 times for each step in the initial sharpening for the 30 degree bevel then some less in the 40 degree :tu: just takes trial and error with the Sharpmaker  but someone more experienced than me would know better :D of course if you have any luck with that I would strop it at the end about 50 times both ways to put a polish on the edge :)

Ponch - you are dead right I think. But with it being such a hard to find tool, I don't really want to experiment with it and botch it.

I use SAKs for my experiments  :P

Could the Triathlon have like different courses for different tools to make it fair on the other nooby multi-tools. For example like a pocket tool course, full sized course, retired tool course and a Gerber course...jks on the last one :D

I think one of the competitions should be to dismantle a broken toaster (or lamp or whatever) and rewire it to working condition, using only one MT or SAK.

There will be a lot of folks doing it, so we don't want the triathalon lasting too long :-\

To be honest, for light work like fixing a toaster, most of my Gerbers could hack it I reckon!

I think the problems I've read about all seem to be using the Suspension for heavy jobs - I wouldn't want to be using one for freeing seized bolts for example. (You'd be needing a Bear for that  >:D). Hmmmm. Bear.

There's an argument about comfort and practicality that would make me choose LM by preference, but I think most half-decent multis could manage light-duty tasks. Even the Suspension!

I used to come here a lot.

What? You expected different? Pfft.

For me, I don't mind a few trials and such, but I'll be quite content pawing stuff and chilling out. A few little test would be fun definitely, but the main thing for me is to meet some old and new friends, see some new tools and blades, have a few beers and enjoy the open air.

Oh and shoot stuff :D

I'm actually with Dave on this one.  I agree a competition would be fun, but I'm more of a chatter and a drinker (and a smoker hope there are no restrictions on your site Nick  :o ).  I bagsy filming it.  :tu:

What i thought would be an awesome idea would be to set up a camera on a tripod and have it take a picture every 30secs or so and then put together a timelapse video of the whole meet up. But that would require having either a video camera and just film it then take images from the film or a laptop and a webcam or a camera that can be controlled via software (or an intevelometer!)

......but that might just be me!! :D
