Scissors for paracord?
on: January 04, 2014, 09:53:09 PM
Does any MT have good scissors for cutting paracord? I´ve tried my Charge and wave scissors and can´t get clean cut with them.

Something with short, thick and  micro serrated blades would be the best. Like these:

Old Swiss champ didn´t work, scissors could be dull since  I´ve used them a lot.

Wenger scissors work well in my experience and so do the scissors on a LM Micra provided they are still sharp.

Of the MTs I've tested, here are the ones that I thought did great for 550.

Gerber MP400, Victorinox Spirit X, Leatherman Micra, any 58mm Victorinox, Style CS.

Here's a link to the test thread. 550 was one of the specific things I tested. My criteria for 'pass with distinction' for 550 was cutting the whole strand cleanly with one snip.

I´m mostly using Scholl nail clippers now but i´d like to find MT that could do the job.

Thanks for the link and help, now I´m regretting that I sold my Surge few years ago.  I had to check Gerber, they seem to have some quite interesting tools, I didn´t know they have so many models, there are mostly Leathermans available here.

There are a few folks here that I'd say are huge Gerber fans. One of the really strong points of them (for me, at least) is the scissors. It sort of makes sense since they're part of Fiskars, a company known for good scissors.

Fiskars scissors I´m very familiar with as it is originally Finnish company.  :)

I have also used a small pair of Knipex flush cutting electronics sidecutters.

Kokeile Gerberin Shortcut mallia. Avaimenperä kokoa oleva, mutta isoilla saksilla. Voin suositella.

I love victorinox scissors myself. Been using them for over 3 years cutting cord now.

A surge will eat paracord alive. Or mine will anyways.

Usually I use a knife to cut my paracord, then a lighter to prevent the end from frilling.
