LM Charge Cutouts
on: March 31, 2009, 12:06:00 AM
Has anyone noticed else noticed on their Charge or Charges ;) that there are missing cutouts or badly done ones.

If you don't get what I mean here it is, me and LM123 were talking about last night.

Here is a pictures of an example on the Charge Ti, also this is apparent on my BPS Charge TTi

*Also Note the R symbol after Leatherman on the second pic

Just took my Ti out of my pocket and took a look. All the cuts are in there except for on one side in the CHARGE. It really is no big deal for me. Now another question is does your diamond file rub the scales when you open and close it? That annoys me much more.

It doesn't annoy me either mate :)

Yes I believe the diamond file situation is apparent in most Charges...every one that I've come across has the problem.

When I was building the Multitool.org Charges I disassembled and reassembled ten different tools. Every one of them had diamond files that rubbed. Not a big deal really, but like prime says, somewhat of an annoyance. :-\ I tried correcting it, but nothing I tried worked. The root of the problem was the liner lock spring, which pushes the file outward. That and the fact that the file is actually thinner than either of the knife blades means that there is less thickness at the pivot pin to counteract the pressure of the liner lock. (hope that makes sense)

Anyhow, the fact that the file rubs on most Charges is really not excusable, as you never hear of a Charge where the saw blade rubs (saw is the same thickness as the file)

4 Charges for me and only one that doesn't have the file rub. Interestingly the one that's fine is a really early Charge Ti, right when they first came out. Date code 0404 You think something like that would have been a problem in the early production life of a tool and then fixed latter on the run.

Tinny my TTi Charge has a crappy A & E in the Charge cut out on one side  :-\ . I am very surprised about the file I thought my one was a dud  :o.
I have been thinking about this lately, the T Charge's are meant to be the top of the LM range. But my Paul Chen Multitasker (I got for $1us) is actually put together better than my TTi Charge  :o :o. I will hasten to add the Multtasker is NOT a better MT in any way , it just does not have basic QC issues that the TTi has.
I love LM tools but if they want to remain competitive on the world stage they really need to sort out their QC. The rubbing file issue is TERRIBLE.

Yessir, I get most of my Charge's from a trading post and I check beforehand.. I had a few others with the rub: but they are no longer in my possesion.

On the BO Charge I just got, I noticed the cutouts are somewhat faded (fairly unevenly colored) but that's something quite minor for me..

I have a black Ti and it seems to be different on each side of the cutouts - one is much less proud but most letters are ok.

However, my file does not rub a bit so on balance I'm happy!

I couldn't stand it, I got another TTi that needs to go back to warranty in the mail today.. I took a scale off of the old TTi and put it on my TTi with the cutout issue.. So, I am very happy!  :D
