Analog or Digital?
on: April 04, 2009, 03:58:03 AM
Which type of watch do you use?  Or should I say...can you quickly read an analog after years of having a digital?

It may sound stupid to some older folks, but my generation grew up on digital watches for the most part.  My brain at least wasn't trained to quickly read an analog clock.  My Timex is analog, but with a small screen that can show the digital time or the date.  I've always had it on the digital time, but for the past month or so, I changed it over to the date and have been reading the analog hands.

A lot of the Victorinox watched I've wanted are analog (I think all Vics are  ), so I've trained myself to read 'em quick!

I prefer digital watches for work because they are much cheaper, for formal occasions I prefer analog watches they look more elegant. Have the same problem switching from digital to analog I have to take time getting used to it.

I prefer the classic looks of analog myself,as well as for years I needed the sweep hand when I was palpating patients' pulses.

I think analog is much classier looking.  Being of a certain age, it makes no difference to me whether it's digital or analog as to speed of reading, but then again, I learned how to use a slide rule in junior high, so what the hell.

Panerais seem rather expensive aren't you worried about losing it?

I have a dual Timex as well somewhere, which I have not used in years (battery died, never bothered replacing it as the watch is well worn) for several years I have had a digital only Timex, a year or so ago I got a cheap analog only for when I have to dress nice (agree with the elegant comment) and it's fairly easy to read... except the battery died in that one too. Def many many many years ago used to work in a watch repair shop and gave me a self wind analog that he rescued... I loved that watch, unfortunately the pin didn't hold the strap and I lost it when we were out one night (and didn't realize it until it was long gone...) Sorta have my eye on some analog Wengers but they're a bit outside my comfort range price wise... I'm happy with either. It only takes me a bit to get used to reading an analog again even tho I've had digital for a long time.
The difficult we do immediately, the impossible takes a little longer.

I can read both digital and analog well but I much prefer digital. I use to have watches that die on me, etc but ever since I got my Casio G-Shock with solar and the atomic feature I have never been happier and my watch is always correct. It only faltered once on day lights savings time where the tower that relays the new time was screwing up, for two days I had to set the time manually on my watch. One time in 4 years is not bad for my only issue, when this 10 year battery does die I will buy another one and keep on truckin'.

I find analogue easier to read. Like Raptorman I find a cheap Timex fits my needs. There are some Victorinoxs that have caught my eye recently though :)

All of my watches are analog, even my G Shock was analog with a small digital display on the bottom.

I wear a digital to work at it's waterproof and can hack getting covered in bodily fluids and being hit and kicked  :D, and an analog when I can be bothered to change it.

I have no real preferance as to the speed of how I can read it.
I'm back!!

They don't come much more analogue than the Seiko Orange Monster I find myself strapping on more often than not.  I have a couple of G-Shocks (one soon going to the UK) and while I like them, I find the rubber straps and armor of them to be uncomfortable at times.  The Seiko is large and almost unwieldy, but for some reason I don't mind it as much.  Besides, I don't find myself needing nearly as many features as it has- I had no idea how to set the tide graph, and even less idea how to use it, so as far as I'm concerned, Dunc can have it!  :D

Occasionally it takes me a moment to figure out what time it is when I look at it, but for the most part I can read it at a glance.  Sometimes if I am distracted though I have to stop and think about it for a moment, but occasionally I get so distracted I forget lots of things, like tying my shoelaces and I have to stop and think about it for a minute.

I haven't owned a digital watch since I was 10 (that's a few years ago now).  Analogue all the way for me, Ive been wearing one of these almost non-stop for the last 3 years http://www.shockwatches.co.uk/showdetails.asp?id=115 .  A very tough watch that isn't to heavy or chunky on the wrist.  Plus you've got to love titanium haven't you.  :)

For me it's analog, preferably no day/date but that's hard to find in a style I like.

These are my two:

Analogue all the way for me. I mostly own automatic Seikos like my black monster but also have a sweet citizen ecodrive and a nice Wenger brigade quartz model.

My work watch (for cubicle warfare) is an analog one.

My beater watch is a Timex Ironman I bought in 1991 that is still going strong....looks like hell but it still works.
