Help me choose an axe Bushcraft please

I was looking at a GB small forest axe on the Raymears site for £45-00 I have a wee bit of ot coming can anyone recommend anything that better/more suitable

I can say that I have the SFA and it's a great bit of kit.  No way would you be unhappy with it.  It is however still quite a large thing to carry about for any length of time, so if you are intending on hiking with the axe you might want to look at the Wildlife Hatchet as an alternative.  Here is an in hand shot for scale.

I would myself but I reckon I have less chance of scaring the living daylights out of any passing sheeple if I have a common countryside tool like an axe rather than a big scary knife

I'm really not a big axe user The only full-size axe I have is an old Collins Hudson Bay pattern which I haven't used in years...other than using it to strike sparks after viewing a Survivorman episode

I do have a handful of hatchets, but for my circumstances a good folding saw has been much more useful.

Take a look at the gerber gator II combo ax, it has a nice wood saw in the handle.  I'm going to purchase relatively soon, and it seems to have gotten soem good reviews.

Take a look at Wetterlings axes, they are nice quality tools too!

I have used both Wetterlings and GBs, I find that Wetterlings are just as good and much easier on the wallet.

Nothing wrong with that mate, I use one almost daily, and there a lot kinder to the tree

I'm going to stand by my original suggestion of the Gerber Gator II axe.  I just got one, and man is it awesome.  Granted, it was pretty dull out of the clampack, but about 10 minutes later I could shave my arm hair with it.  Really nice size for bushcraft, and the added saw in the handle is an INCREDIBLE benefit.
