Carry this as I commute by bike. I think it qualifies as a multitool, albeit a cycling biased one. Its. Topeak Alien RX, approx 25 years old.

Absolutely! That looks like a rather handy one too. A local store was having a sale on bicycle tools similar to that and I snatched up a few to stow in different places. They have a good set of tools that you just don't find on "regular" MTs, at least without bit extensions.

Did some Surge-ry to my Skeletool - modded the saw and file to fit the bit holder. They fit OK but I have to do something about the wiggle. Shrink wrap didn't work. The saw is really short, but my SAK has a bigger one. The file actually works better in hand. But what's done is done.

I had been thinking of doing this mod at some point but chose not to... it kind of sounds like it isn't worth it now so thanks for taking one for the team! Perhaps if you glue something to the side of the part that fits into the bit holder... metal would be best of course, but even some sturdy plastic...

Here's my cleaned up pocket dump (I left out some odds and ends to keep the picture tidy). Also, I arrived at the office early this morning and after having made coffee I couldn't find any milk/cream in the fridge so I checked the supply closet nearby. I found a box of them but they were sealed with a hefty strap and it looks like no one else had been able to open it yet :D

Yeah, I've had the Surge kit lying around a while. I got it mostly to have a file. But let's face it, a MT is not always the ideal platform for certain tools. So I'm thinking, why not just wrap the end with tape and use it as a standalone mini file. After all, it's way too small to cut your way out of a prison cell... Same with the saw. I've used the saw on a Wave when doing camping stuff, and it's better suited for small time tinkering with furniture and wood paneling, making holes for wiring, etc.

Spydies and Vics and Leathermans, Oh My!

Used the Antonini to open a bottle of Mussolini wine, really! (its curved blade coped with the foil very well  :drink:)

It was a Christmas gift from one of the Italian types  :pok:

The Opinel is from my tool box, not normally in rotation. But today I did some woodworking. It's a slicing demon for accurate cutting.

More Freestyle. I had just enough free time today to add a small notch in the frame for better access to the nail nick on the flathead addition/mod.

I also noticed that unlike the Skeletool, the handle end is pointed... and quite strong. One could pry with it as is but I shaped and modified the geometry as well as added a small nail puller... just in case. Now though this is one of my smallest tools, it has one of the strongest built in pry bars.

The Vic MoneyClip is a great minimalistic pairing.

Thanks mate!

@bluntobject I don't think you were on the forum last time I posted my solution to the Surge and other t-shank related business. Since I often have an 84mm or 91mm SAK on or near me, I designed and 3D printed a small and thin adapter for the bottle cap lifter/flat driver.

You just put in the t-shank through the front and drop it into a shaped notch, then slide in the cap lifter which keeps it snugly from moving side to side. In addition I took advantage of the wire bender notch of the cap lifter to help constrain front to back movement.

This works for me because I keep a saw and Surge file t-shank blades in my wallet always. I CAN use the file w/o a handle but the saw is no good without a proper grip.

This combo of the Skeletool X (with scissors) and a SAK Tourist (small and light but with no scissors, file or saw) gives me all I use all the time and then I have the occasional use file and saw there if/when I need.
