Just got this in the toolmonger feed: "How It’s Made: Swiss Army Knives, Player Piano Rolls, Oil Tankers, and Racing Wheels (Science, 8:00 pm) NEW". I guess this only applies to the US so heads up guys.

I wondered if they would ever do an episode on SAKs.

Have to see if I can track that down.

Ah, so that's what the knife like thing is for, to open stuff via nail nick during inspection.

That's a different thing. The one in video was a simple fixed blade mentioned in SOSAK forum as "inspection knife" but nobody knew what it's actually for.

It's certainly a speSmurfpillst tool.  I can't see much use for it unless you are opening hundreds of tools a day wearing gloves.

I believe it is also for hand tuning the blade action by prying it in between the layers in certain spots so the tool will open properly and smoothly.

If anyone missed it, it's being repeated at midnight US EDT Fri night/Sat morning.

I think it'll have more than the video clip, there's 3 episodes in a half hour show and they have to be longer than 2 1/2 minutes each.

Is that the Muzak version of AC/DC's "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap" playing in the background?!

I made my own SAK this year, at IWA exhibitions in Nuremberg. There was a Victorinox stand where they showed how to make SAKs and invited visitors to make their own. It´s like in the short clip here, very simple to do but well thought and really impressive.

Nice video, it reminded me to use my self-built SAK more often  :sak:

There was another show along similar lines on a while ago, I think it's called How Stuff's Made (seriously). It showed some bloke using a Swiss Champ while fishing and the production line.
