Because he, being outside the US, can't get them and can only stare at their price and wonder why a European product sells for less than half its price almost half a globe far from its place of origin... :(

Not even close, and I've no idea why either.   I gave up looking at Amazon.co.uk for SAKs a long time ago as there are never the deals.  I could live with that if I could order from amazon.com, but we can't.  >:(

Here's an even weirder one. Amazon.com won't ship SAKs or MTs to Canada, while amazon.ca doesn't even offer them for sale.

Amazon are not willing to sell us Canucks SAKs or MTs at all! How's that for money out the window...

It's because amazon.co.uk are bound by the RRP rules laid down by the people who have the import agreements with the manufacturers. For example, a Leatherman tool sold on amazon.co.uk, must still have been imported by Whitby and Co, and therefore amazon (or their Market Place seller) will only get the tools from Whitby's if they agree not to sell below RRP. These rules wouldn't apply to used tools, but obviously the RRP will drive the used price also.

It is wrong, it probably isn't legal under EU competition laws, but, it's the way it is and the only way to contest it would be to hire a lawyer and take civil action. I should add that I am not a lawyer, but when contesting this with Whitby's myself in the past, I just got nowhere and had to give up :(
I used to come here a lot.

It does. And it is even worse in Germany, where any LM tools purchased by mailorder outside the EU can be confiscatet by customs even if it´s NOT a fake but genuine Leatherman. The same with Surefire, Maxpedition and some other brands. German law makes it possible to confiscate products just because the official importer wants to make more money.
Luckily I´ve never heard of such restrictions in Austria.

When ever an item is declared being one of the brands or when ever customs find one of these items when they open packs.
That´s why some of the rare ebay sellers who sell to the EU often write "worldwide, but due to customs not to Germany" - just google  :twak:
