Spirit X + Ratchet.
on: May 12, 2009, 03:18:30 PM
I got my much anticipated Spirit X today , which is a new version of the Spirit with a spear point blade instead of the peanut butter knife + it has scissors.

Things I like as well as the main blade , I prefer the spring set up on the Spirit's scissors, compared too Vics normal flimsy spring found on their SAK's & Swisstool.I think Roadie modded the Spirit's spring so that the scissors open wider . I may do that as well.

I have always liked the Vic chisel tool  8)

The Ratchet Set

Tim was able to supply a Ratchet set, bits/bit holder & a sheath to hold it all together  8) 8)

The Ratchet set is a loverly bit of kit. Beautifully made , stunningly simple & appears to be solid(unlike the Sportratchet's ratchet  :P :D)
It has a conventional mechanical ratchet mechanism built into the ratchet head. You can tighten or loosen by removing the bit extension/holder & put it in the other side of the ratchet head. Simple & cool++++.The kit can also be configured a number of ways either with a longer reach or a shorter reach.

Initial impressions of my 'X man' is extremely positive. It reminds me of the Swisstool X I gave to a friend but better  8). It has a lot less flex in the handles compared to the similar sized SOG's I own & it has, IMHO ,much better finish & quality control built into it compared too some of the  Leatherman MT's I own.I still am a Leather Man though  :P :D :D

So do I need a 'peanut butter' knife Spirit ?

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll287/multimat426/Spirit/S6302641.jpg[/img]]

Pig's bum I do  :P :D , after all I do have a Leatherman Flair with Pate' spreader , so why would I need a 'peanut butter' knife ? :D :D :D

So you believe you don't need a standard Spirit? Think twice... :D
Why do you think there so much love for that blade shape going around in the forum?

Well, it must be overly subliminal for I feel disdain oozing from that pic but I can't quite understand where that feeling stems from... :D

Looking good.  :tu:

Saying that though, I never had a problem with the serrated blade and still got rid of it, so I can't see me investing in one any time soon.
I'm back!!

I dig that chisel tool. I should do something like that to the large flat screwdriver on my TTI.

Nice pics. Thanks.

Your local hardware store can sell you an adapter to use 1/4" socket wrenches with this ratchet.

Thanks for the many pictures multimat; the X does look really cool.

The more pictures I see of them the more impatient I get waiting for mine to come through the letterbox.

Go for it guys, it has assumed the role as my pocket bitch  :P. I have given it quite a pasting since I got it & the only thing I do not like about it ,is the very small wire cutters & that was only a issue when trimming the ends of new wind screen wiper blades. It is great little MT & I do not have to worry about it being a priceless retired MT  :P :P :D :D.
