New SAK i want to modify it a bit
on: June 04, 2009, 03:08:01 PM
I just recently recieved in a trade of sorts ( with Gareth) what I believe to be is a Climber. Well I was looking around and I was wondering if I could upgrade the scales to plus scales and add the pin and pen. Also how difficult is it to replace the scales?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Really easy. Best way to get them off is with a slim flat tool (like a Micra bottle opener) which you slide in to to exsisting tweezer and toothpick holes, levering the scale up. They pretty much pop off but if you want to keep it in one piece just take it easy. There are four pins which it's attached too.

New scales you can probably get from Neil at the moment - check the Misc items for sale thread :)

Yup it is a Climber (although I think I put that one together so if it goes wrong send it to me not Vic  :D).

You can get all you need from Rotokid: http://rotokid.sosakonline.com/index.php?option=com_phpshop&page=shop.browse&category_id=9d929e79896773a1b8fcfd68d0941140&option=com_phpshop&Itemid=1

Here is a nice pic guide on changing the scales: http://www.swiss-knife.com/popups/V.W.PL.expl.EN.htm

Very often you will be able to put the new ones on with a good squeeze of the hand or by putting it on a flat surface and leaning on it.

Don't tell Micky D, but SAKs saws are really rather good.  Shuush, it's a secret.  ;)

Both good choices. You could also get a Huntsman, you could plus that and you'd get scissors :)

Tried to once and got the passwords and all the other crap mixed up. They thought I was hacking my account so had to have everything reset. I dont really get enough "important" email at home to put an effort in for it.

Rotokids shop as far as I understand is just a regular shop.  No registration should be necessary.

Still, you've joined a good place.  :tu:

Ok I finally have gotten a chance to order from RotoKid and I go to checkout and it says I have to have a minimum of $20 purchase? Am I doing something wrong or is that for real?

That sounds right.  Do keep in mind that it'll be shipped free so a $20 minimum order is pretty good.  Its not like it'll be tricky to find something to quickly get you above that mark :)
I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.
