Great way to carry a SAK
on: June 05, 2009, 06:27:44 PM
This is probably old news to most of you guys, but its new to me.  I picked up a small Nite Ize S-biner last night, and its perfect ofr attaching to the keyring, and then you just clip it to the inside of your pants pocket.  Now it hangs from the pocket like a tactical folder and keeps it from banging around with the other stuff in my pocket.  I am carry a 4-layer Wenger which I would not usually because of the heft, but I can barely tell its there.

Nifty! It sounds useful, but I have no idea what those are. Could you take some pics?

Dudes and dudesses,

A word of warning....I have lost stuff when this clip unclipped itself from my belt.

I checked with another forum (don't shoot me :P) and LOADS of people have had the same problem.

It seems great at first but PLEASE exercise caution with this clip.

Mine is now on a landfill somewhere  ::)

I've heard similar things about the S-biner.  The clips need to be stiffer apparently.  I've not got one so I can't say, but be careful if you use one :)

I was going to mention the same thing.

I tried them for a bit and they kept coming off so now I have got rid of them. I won't be using them again.
I'm back!!

+1 I wish the spring tension is little stronger. But works great when hanging inside the pocket as Zack mentioned.

I have one of these and I really like it,

BUT the other day I noticed that my pocket was heavy that is when I noticed that the snap broke and all my stuff was at the bottom of my pocket.

So if you wear one be sure to pocket your goodies.

To be fair though I bent the snap the other day and straightened it with my Spirit so that could have had something to do with the failure.

I use a small s-biner but it does hang in t my pocket so would hopefully not cause me to lose anything. I have heard they are unreliable too but they are such a great idea  ???

I've been using this arrangement for a few months and really like it. It clips inside of the pocket material. It's really secure and low key. Berkeley Point SS clip and SS fishing tackle swivel.  :) Please forgive the poor quality photographer :-[

I was using something similar to this idea to carry my X-Tract. It worked quite well; the tool remained in the pocket, didn't dangle too much, was ultra-low-key and very fast to take it out and use. It provided no security when running/jumping/tumbling though. I also used the biner part to carry my skeletool, with the same pros and cons of the first solution. If your average day includes sitting (very comfy couches excluded) and walking, the hook/biner carry method is ok. If you anticipate any more vigorous encounters, I'd suggest going with a sheath, pocket-in-pocket, or sturdy pocket clip.

I use a plastic trigger hook, like this one, except I use cord instead of curly wire.

http://tbn2.google.com/images?q=tbn:0PdOWE74VM2FmM:http://www.enforce-logic.co.uk/kr10.jpg

I got the hook off a sunglasses case. It works well and the plastic is less likely to scratch scales than metal would be.

I had thought the S-biner was the solution to my keyring carry. The problem was, that the keyring stayed securely in place on it's end of the biner, but the Fenix LD 01 and Manager at the other end kept coming off.The final straw was when I lost my Manager, and nowhere in sight. S-biner now forgotten and put away, and a Mini-Champ rides on my new arrangement until I score another Manager.

I use this:

http://www.uncle-mikes.com/products/inside_the_pocket_holsters.html

It keeps everything vertical and smooths out the lines so my pockets don't bulge. It will hold a MT and flashlight. I typically carry either a Skeletool or Spirit and a AA or 1 CR123 flashlight in it with the multitool.

I don't know if these are available in the UK but they cost about $10 here.

Uncle Mikes would probably ship it to you. I wonder how much the postage would be. I wonder if one of the large pocket protectors would work. I'll have to try that.

Surely the Nextorch one (the smaller one) is a total copyright infringement on the S-biner?!
