In my opinion, and that and a dollar will buy a cup of coffee in most places,The Germans biggest drawback was the nut leading the nation at the time.He insisted on diluting German ingenuity, and resources developing and building AFV types of dubious value.Guderian's career suffered as a result in standing up to Hitler, and wanting production focused on tanks instead of countless non-tank armored vehicles.

No doubt there was some superb engineering coming out Germany, but I think it was much too intricate and fiddly for everyday hard use in the field, and I think that is part of the reason the Soviets were so apoplectic about Germany entering NATO;German engineering adapted and mated to American mass production.
