Using MTs Outdoors
on: July 05, 2009, 10:33:46 PM
For those of you who carry MTs in the outdoors how much usage do you actually put them to on every outing?

I dug out my PST2 today…it has spent more time in the field than any other MT I own. I started thinking of what I’ve actually used it for…

-File for touching up hatchet and knife edges, especially the diamond faced side. Judging by the residue, I’ve used the other side for striking matches a few times.
-Pliers as a pot handle and bail grabber, bending bailing wire, pulling a nail or two.
-Screwdriver blades were used a few times to tighten screws on fishing reels. The fine blade was most useful for that and for eyeglass screws.
-Can-opener – never…used a SAK or P-38
-Scissors – not one time that I can remember
-Knife blade – not very many times, it still has the factory edge on it…maybe a few food packages and cutting a few pieces of cordage.

Just cut open a bag of Haribo winegums with my Juice S2 in the garden today... :D

I guess that counts if you're standing on dirt and not your patio... :D

I can't say I use an MT all that much in the woods to be honest :-\

I find the Swisschamp just as useful, and a lot more comfortable besides :)
Give in, buy several Farmer's!!!!!!

I use the saw blade on my lucky Super Tool to hack through small branches all the time. The cutting action works pretty well, although I can't really say how much better or worse it is compared to other multitool saws.

I've also used the serrated blade on a number of occasions to cut rope. :)
In order to be certain of having the right tool for every job.........one must first acquire a lot of tools

Thats pretty much what i do with my charge in the outdoors :-)
Only thing missing is cutting my nails with the scissors as climbing with to long fingernails is not really cool.

@Mr. Whippy: I understand you will be my first customer buying my modified skeletool :-D

That's why I bought my Skeletool Cx, the serrated blade cuts all that dead weight faster!
As to the rest of the stuff, I use my pliers for the standard pot holder, fish hook remover (even though I'm allergic... :ahhh), tight knot puller, building snares and shelters.

Knife stirs my food, cuts bows for shelter, cleans food, cuts tangled rope... many many more random things I don;t feel like thinking of... :twak:

Screwdriver mostly fixes gear, or pries apart things.

You can use your imagination for what the bottle opener is used for...  >:D :drink:

Mostly my PST... though I brought my Spirit last time.

Bending crappy tent stakes... stabbing holes in the ground... cutting rope. Stuff.

I really need to get a PSTII. :D
Got those frog legs.
