BOBs
on: April 23, 2007, 01:21:26 AM
I'm looking for a good quality, inexpensive bag to use as a BOB.  I've almost pulled the trigger on the County Comm Gen. 5 BOB several times, but I thought you guys might have some good suggestions to be considered.

I'm all ears.

I like the Maxpedition stuff.  It's expensive, but the pack I have seems like it's going to last forever.  Other than that, try surfing military surplus stores for surplus bags.  They're inexpensive and seem to last a little while.

I like the Maxpedition stuff as well.  I have had two Thermite Versapacks and I am getting the itch to get another one again.  For some reason I keep selling them.  Maybe it's time for that lobotomy?  :twak:

Thanks to Tarrodemierda I just caught this thread.  NutSAK-I have been using the County Comm Bail Out Bag for over a year now for work.  It is well built and big enough to hold all I need, I use it more as a briefcase than a bail-out-bag.  I got mine through County Comm but Cheaper-than-dirt has the same bag for a little....well...cheaper.

Funny that you mention that....  I ordered two of them from CheaperThanDirt last week, and they arrived today.  I've already got mine about 80% rigged out.  I love the velcro loop holster in the "hidden" pocket!

I'm going to help SWMBO kit hers out tonight.

That looks like just about the right size to fit in the space between the back seat and the tail gate of my Jeep.  Been looking for something to go in there....

well here i am,im taking apart my od big bob, which i gues i listed in time i joined this forum some time ago.

the new one im buildin in my maxpedition proteus versipack, which is tremendiously(?) smaller than my old one-day molle backpack.in this im tryin to stuff some essential and this is so far my list:
-LM CORE in separate molle sheath+deano42´s custom paracord retention lanyard,on top of right sides small pouch
-two maxpedition grimlock carabiners next to previous
-one zipper puller i changed,i added a puller end with small but loud whistle in it
-i also sliped the Magnum Chopper by Boker into belt, and on sheath i have some length of black paracord wrapped on.

inside i have now:
-some plasters and field dressing, alcohol wipes and few different pills, safety pins,in small plastic bag,in right sides small pouch, theres also a fauxton.
-on left ends pouch i have some energy bars, chewing gum, instant coffee, tea, and those....i dont know the english word but those concentrate blocks used to make soup,in taste of ox,chicken and veggie.
-in main compartment theres:
-two sporks,black and orange
-0.5 liter trangia teflon pan/can and one 0.3 liter trangia cup
-german army´s Esbit cooker+24 burning bits(the small ones that doesnt reek so much as those big ones)
-snare wire
-waterproof notebook keeper with fisher bullet pen+rite in rain notebook
-some folded duct tape
-keychain with 3" prybar+spy capsule(with migraine pills)+small compass+paracord fob+light my fire firesteel+diamond sharpening rod+fauxton+peanut lighter.
-space blanket that is painted with flat olive drap and flat black from other side.
-Buff utility scarf
-plastic waterproof container holding few mathes+striker+tinder.
-cuff keys
-Pocketwrench II

nothin more yet,as im thinking i should get some small utility pouch more and few molle clips+outer sheath for flashlight attached somehow.and something like small spearhead(maybe flat bow arrowhead?) and fishing line+hooks.
i also have this ultra-small sleepingback i can easily strap under this versipack.

id also like to add some small tools, maybe a versadriver with some hex/phillips/flathead bits and maybe 4-6 crescent wrench.

-this kit does miss these, and id like to get clever suggestions with sense problems:
-decent field-saw
-some small tarp or anythin else for making small shelter and cover from rain.
-shovel?
-where to get MRE ration packs or parts to make one?

-and as worst case scenario,im intrested in any rugged harness or drop-leg way to carry a .44 desert eagle and comm. device.

any suggestions/opinions guys?

This thread has prompted me to see what I had laying around.

1. Maxpedition Thermite Versipack

2. Country Comm Diplomat Pocket Organizer

3. LA Police Gear BDU Pocket Organizer

4. Maxpedition - NEATFREAK™ ORGANIZER (Khaki)

5. Maxpedition - M-5 WAISTPACK (Khaki)

6. Maxpedition Last Resort Tactical Attache

4 out of 6 are Maxpedition - that says something

I do plan on buying a Kifaru Organizer Pocket next.
Why do I carry a 45 ?
Because they don't make a 46 !
