Interest in Bear Tools and Victorinox oddities.
on: July 06, 2009, 06:51:35 PM
I am making another run to a nice store that has an interesting assortment of items, chief among them are a Bear Jaw and a Son of Bear Jaw, plus at least two or three tiny silver Bear micro multitools, and an assortment of those micro multitools with transparent plastic covering the handles.  I was curious if there was interest in them, and if I should pick anything up for interested parties.

If so, please post in this thread or send me a PM and I will try to accommodate everyone.

Err... I'm unsure of it this is the correct board to post this thread, seeing as this is a feeler.  Please move as necessary, Mods and Admin. :)

[Edit:  I just realized that I forgot about the Victorinox offerings; they have, off the top of my head, Classics and Spartans with Nascar(?) numbers, along with SwissCards, too.  Also in the offerings is a Golf Tool (current model), and a SportRatchet, although I didn't exactly look at the prices on them.  As before, please let me know if anyone is interested.]

Oh, and I'm going back to the place Thursday, so please let me know by Wednesday night, say 10 PM EST?  I may have a chance to check the thread before I leave Thursday morning, but I make no promises.  Furthermore, I will go by posting time if multiple people request the same item, so first shown interest will receive the item(s).

That is a kind offer Sazabi. :) What sort of store carries all those brands?

It's an antique store; in fact, that's where I purchased my load of six SAKs, posted in the Swiss Forum.

I thought that, since people here do like Bear and Son, someone may like one or more of the items.  The only problem is that I have no idea what the prices were. :/  The only reasons why I don't mention the name of the place are that, one, I don't remember the name of it, and two, I want a couple other rareish items, so I'm kinda protecting the source, so to speak. ^^;

The finds in the Swiss Forum were the best finds in the place, thus far, though.  With that said, if anyone likes Case knives, there is a nice selection there.  I'll remember to write down the name of the place when I go there this Thursday for anyone else wanting to go there. *nods*

The owner is quite nice; in fact, both myself and my father spent an hour just talking with him, this being an hour after official closing time.  I suppose the fact I purchased $200 in SAKs didn't hurt, either. :D

Oh, and thank you for the move, J-sews; I really had no idea where to place it. ^^;

From the top of my head, the Bear Jaws Son was around forty, the larger one was forty-fivish?  I'd never heard of the micro tools, myself, and they do seem... fiddly.  I think they were maybe ten each?

The micro tools consisted of pliers, nail file/cleaner, small blade, bottle opener/tiny screwdriver, and a regular screwdriver, if memory serves.  I can take a picture of them when I go back Thursday, though, if you'd like.

Pass on the bear stuff here although i greatly appreciate your generous offer. I am interested to see a picture of those micro tools if it's not too much trouble.

I've already got a regular bear jaws on the way.

Except for the haul I was able to bring in on Saturday... or whatever day it was  :think: the prices aren't good. :/

I'll have to get the pictures onto the forum later, as the card reader is acting up on this computer, but from my notes:

Mini Bear Jaws $49
4 inch Bear Jaws $82
5 inch Bear Jaws $62
Victorinox Autotool with Sheath $99

He also has a slue load of Case knives, Nascar-labeled SAKs, three new style Golfers for $35 each, a Golftool, and a couple other notable items.  The place, if anyone is interested, is Hatchet Jack's Trading Post, on Highway 321 and Aho Road, between Boone and Blowing Rock.

Address:

109 #2 Aho Rd, PO Box 890, Blowing Rock, NC 28605

They lack an email address, but interested parties can contact the owners at 828.773.6904.

I'd definitely recommend the place for anyone looking for interesting items.  I didn't post the name of the place earlier because I was thinking of getting the Golfers and didn't want them to poof on me before I got there; ultimately, though, I decided against them. *shrugs*

Again, the Mini Bear Jaws pictures will be posted, eh, probably tomorrow, when I can send the pictures to my desktop, transfer them to USB, and then host them on tinypic for here. ^^;

Agreed on the prices. I did a buy it now on a 4 inch bear jaws NIB w/ sheath from ebay for only $25 a few days ago..

Are those new at least?

I do appreciate your kind offer to pass along the finds though.

Thanks, Silentio; Toothrot:  yeah, I'm not happy with those high prices, either, but I may be able to work down the price /some/, considering I did buy $200 off from him in SAKs.  With that said, I wouldn't know the price until I was handing over the money. :/

Oh, umm... I probably should've tried the adapter again on this card reader... it just worked. ^^;

Closed; yes, the pictures aren't the best; they're taken with my dinky 2.0 MP phone. :/

Here it is opened.

Here the tools are spread; from left to right:  nail file/cleaner, knife blade, bottle opener/small screwdriver, phillips screwdriver (I think?).

I tried taking a picture of the stainless steel/no transparent cover; it says Mini Bear Jaws on the handle. :)

I'm sorry about the delay. :/

Left a message with the owner; umm, Mods, will you please delete the phone number ending in 1101?  Apparently the number is now used by someone else, and I'd rather not bother anyone's privacy. ^^;

Thank you, Benner. :)

As it stands, the Auto Tool has been reserved for Grimm and the Sport Ratchet just reserved for rp252.  Is anyone else interested in items before I head back up there probably at the end of this week?

There are four, IIRC, Mini Bear Jaws with translucent coverings; I think I may've transposed the price of them, though.  :/

Ok, there are three remaining color Mini Bear Jaws; besides two stainless steel models, there is one each of blue, black, and green.  There /is/ the possibility of a red one also being there, misplaced, but I wouldn't count on it.

The Mini Bear Jaws are $49 each.

Oh, and there is a chance that interested parties may have one more day of contemplation before I leave on this closest trip up to the store; we may be heading up there Monday, instead of tomorrow, but will only know just a couple minutes in advance, as to when it'll be.

Sorry to jack your thread but i figure if someone is looking for bear and son tools they might want to look at this

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=320395020941

It's a new mini bear jaws and victorinox SAK in a tin for $30 BIN

I was thinking about it but i've spent too much money lately. I remember someone mentioning that victorinox owned bear and sons (or was it just some of their patents?)

both tools are black (not sure of the model of the SAK)
