These are brand new on the market and made with a very interesting scale material.  Check
them out.

A cheaper, lighter, greener Buck?  What's not to like?   :tu:

For me, it would be the "lighter" part.  Lol!  There is something about the weight of a 110 or a Schrade LB7 that makes me feel more like a man!

In 1974 I bought my first Buck 110 at a hardware store for $25.00 which was a tidy sum in  those days. I thought it was the most beautiful knife I`d ever seen. I never could get a good edge on it. I carried it for several years any way. Finally the back spring broke and I retired it for good and moved on. While looking through this tread my interest in the Buck 110 was restirred and while out shopping today I stop by the hunting section of the store to look around and saw they had Buck 110`s so I looked through them and bought one. Thirty Six years after my first purchase of a 110 I now have another. I still think its one of the best looking knives made.

David,  Way to go, looks great!  :tu:  Do you still have your old one?  Buck has a lifetime warranty eh?
Just be sure to tell them not to replace it if they cannot fix it and send it back and find someone who can.  :)

My Alaskan Guide 110 with S30V, and Rosewood scales just arrived today via
UPS from Cabela's Canada.  Great knife at a great price.

I have one, it was sort of inherited. Blade came broken but I've actually carried and use it for an EDC knife when I didn't have any money for a new knife. I'm going to send it in for a blade replacement eventually.

I really like the 110. I had three of them. One I found in a coffee can at a yard sale. One I found in an old locker we removed at work, and one I bought. I still have two of them but dont use them. For hunting I use my outdoor edge with gut hook and for general use I use one hand folders and mulltitools most of the time. They are the most coppied and not just by knockoffs. I think many of puma knives as well as others. A 110 really belongs in my collection! :salute: :salute: :salute:

(Image removed from quote.)

Call them and speak to a person before sending it in.  Some of these companies reserve the right to simply replace it with a new one.  If it has sentimental value or is an old one, be careful!

I dont know if I still have it or not. I`ve lost so much stuff moving around over the years. Good score there Sean.    :tu:   I think the Cabelas Alaskan Guide 110 will be on the short list.

Still haven't bothered to get one yet... :-[

Amici,
Sorry to necropost but this is such a GREAT tread on a fantastic knife, I just had to add my two cents..

The Buck 110 has been one of my favorite folders since I was a "wee lad" and was my main edc until the advent of the OHO and them some.. When it came to construction, quality of materials, and blade edge retention, the 110 was and still IS a great folder to not only have but also use despite the ooh's and ahh's of it's weight.

My 110 is 15 + years old and is still in my rotation since my old ARNG days to whenever I head into the field trekking to whereabouts unknown.. When on my hip, it seems to radiate a feeling of strengh, safety, and preparedness which reminds me that my 110 after all these years and 1,000 chores later has never let me down..

I prefer the 110 with finger grooves since I have felt that these not only offer better control when accomplishing delacate tasks but also makes it look very sleek, especially since the majority of 110s that you encounter have flat lines..

I only wish is that it came with a lanyard hole so I could actually strap on a lanyard, that would be the ultimate in 110 statement individuality..

Over the years the 110 has even been modded with handle material upgrades, inserted lanyard holes, pocket clips, and there is even one company that has modded the 110 to become a OHO with the addition of a spring and a button ala switchblade, truly unbelievable..

Despite the criticism of its weight, these OHO 110's always seem to be in high demand and out of stock, hmmmm.. I wonder why..  ::)

The Uncle Henry LB7 made by Shrade was a close runner up, but still, It's NOT a Buck. Although Shrade banged up shop in the US just a few years ago, the LB7 is still being manufactured in China but an original USA made LB7 can still be found at a reasonable price on EBay..

As for brass tarnishing, allot of the reason this happens is because of what the factory uses in the tanning process, manufacturing, and assembling the stock sheath. Still it's not the end of the world and nothing a little Brasso or Flitz applied with a cottonball can't remedy. For such a powerful knife with a hundred uses, a little tarnishing is a small price to pay for such a terrific and traditional folder that won't let you down when you need it.

One trick an old USN Boatswains Mate taught me was to take a thin piece of twine or marline the total lengh of the blade edge and insert it into the knife. Adding a few drops of Rem-oil will ensure that the blade edge as well as the carbon steel are protected from any possible corrosive elements.

If you go ahead upgrade to a custom made sheath which is vegetable tanned and dyed, which I have done (since I am also a southpaw) and give it a quick wipe every once in a while, this has been the solution and I have since had no tarnishing issues whatsoever. That includes long term storage still with no tarnishing as is custom with stock sheaths..

Cheers,
Serge

Not at all, I just picked up a 112 with finger grooves as well!!

When I was examining the sheath, I noticed a little sticked stating, "Made In Mexico" as well as the leather being a wee bit thin compared the the made in USA sheaths of years past but it did include that all too familiar urine tanned smell... Gotta thank NAFTA for that major improvment in the sheath manufacturing process..

Cheers,
Serge

year they came out.  I quite like it.

Any source for a cheap 110? I've been looking but anything that's a decent price have about $30 of shipping tacked on.

Those paper handle ones are nice but seems pretty rare.

You know what Jim guy, I remember that also.. Big guys with beards, long hair on soft tails gripping ape hangers with a chain wallet and a Buck knife on the hip, Ahhh memores...

As for where to pick up a 110 or 112 cheap, try either ebay, or Amazon.. Believe it or not I picked mine up for $42.00 with shipping.. A rarity for Amazon especially lately..

Cheers,
Serge

The 110 is great needs a secession on the Sharpmaker to make it perfect. Cheaper 110's are out there  :tu: :tu:

Yeah I would recommend ebay as well.  Pretty much all of mine are "old" with 440c and a bit more
sought after so I've paid a bit more because of it but certainly if you want a newer one they can
be had for cheap along with shipping.

I bought my father and I one each back in 1970.  I has his engraved and he put it up.  I sold mine because the edge on it was too hard and chipped.  I now have the one that I gave my dad and it is still put up. :)  I will probably pass it on to one of my sons and he can use it or put it up.
I think the Buck 110 lock back was one of the first "easy opening" folders made and paved the way for more inovations in folders.

Nice looking knife. Aren't 110's great? I owned and carried one for years, it was my "don't leave home without it" woods knife. A bit on the heavy side, but such a well balanced, solid knife. Don't know what happened to that particular knife, but a couple of years ago I bought one at Wal-Mart for something like $25. The only difference between the new one and my old one (aside from being shinier) is that the new knife came with a nylon rather than leather sheath. It's still the same classic 110.
There's no such thing as "Too pretty to carry".  There's only "Too pretty NOT to carry"...... >:D
