Is this idea practical or just a greasy mess?
on: August 06, 2009, 03:44:44 AM
I think I want to try to cut a slot along the middle of an ordinary ratchet and have a sliding door cover the slot so that I can fill up the slot with neverseize. That way I don't even have to go to the toolbox to get it, I can just open the door on the ratchet and dip the tips of bolts I'm about reassemble instead of having to put the ratchet down for the neverseize tube. Do you guys think this idea is practical in the real world or would the whole ratchet likely be a greasy mess people would never want to use in the real world?

Sounds good on paper. Give it a try and see how it works.

This sounds tricky and perhaps, sticky.  I don't know how you could do it but perhaps some kind of rubber seal around the slot would help.

Sounds like a mess to me. How about just strapping a small capsule or container to the handle?

Maybe something like a fliptop contact lens case cut in half with a velcro strap attached?

What are you working on, cars? And what kind of ratchet is it? Personally I make so many trips around the garage while working on cars that one more for anti-seize if I'm dealing with exhaust/suspension bolts isn't a big deal. Then again as innovative as I am, I am still a glutton for punishment and sometimes it takes me awhile to admit that there is a faster/better way :P
