Canon G12 died.
on: September 04, 2020, 09:09:07 PM
My trusty photographic companion...the Canon G12 that I purchased back in 2010, just gave up the ghost. It was working fine last night, but today, the lens came out, and I got a lens error message. When I took a closer look, the lens appeared to be jammed. I tried several things, to no avail. I will miss that twist LCD and the hot shoe mount the most. The majority of the photographs I posted in here from 2010 up to yesterday, was from the G12. I guess it might be time for my Nikon Coolpix L32 that I bought for something a little better to take along on my motorcycle rides and powered by AA cells, to step up. Oddly enough, the Nikon has twice the megapixels compared to the G12. Still going to miss that camera though. I wager it wouldn't be worth it to repair at that.

And a camera seems to be - at least to me - more than just a tool. It becomes a comrade. I can still name the exact location where my first camera died, twenty years ago. Keeping my fingers crossed that you'll get a new cam that fits like a shoe!

Yes, not a happy day for me. The Nikon only has direct flash.

Why not just have it repaired Dan? Or buy another off eBay ?
I have the G16 but also own 12 canon dslrs  hence the G16 never gets used.  But I won’t sell as it works well with the EX speedlites I have ( 8 off )

Get it repaired, your pictures here on the forum are testament to how versatile the G12 is.

I don't claim to know it all, but what I do know is right.

I love my G10 and would find another one if it died!

I tossed it in the garbage after finding how much it would cost to repair.
