on: September 05, 2009, 11:09:28 PM
Yesterday we went to the lake and I took some bird shots, nice day saw an Osprey and a Bald Eagle for the first time:

I must say it was truly awesome to see those great birds

I must say having a DSLR makes a huge difference: old camera, new DSLR:

We see lots of bald and golden eagles here- not enough that they are common place, but enough that you can be amazed on a fairly regular basis!  Ospreys are pretty common here, but are still such an impressive bird you can't help but watch them.  Cormorants are also quite common here, and I have gotten pretty close to some of them in my kayak and gotten some really cool photos.  You can see them in this thread:

http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,2216.45.html

Of course I don't take a good camera with me in the kayak, so the pics aren't the highest quality.  And, I haven't been out in my kayak in about a year now, so no more recent pics.  Maybe next week while I'm on vacation I'll get some good shots!  I plan to be in the 'yak pretty often!

Wow that is quite the Cormorant, at the lake Cormorants, Canadian Geese and Gulls are really common,
There are also Great Blue Herons but they are as you wonderfully put it “not enough that they are common place, but enough that you can be amazed on a fairly regular basis!”

Sadly there are only about 150 nesting pairs of Bald Eagles in the state of Ohio so seeing one is very rare, and I did not even know Ospreys even lived here. (I had to look it up when we got home)

Fantastic mate! Big thanks for sharing.

I remember seeing an Osprey in Fort Myers FL and couldn't believe how close we got to it on the boat - that wonderful creature would have the R.S.P.B. with armed guards round it over here!!  :ahhh

Here's a pic. There's a chick at her feet if you look close.
