Well I am in the club now and I am really liking it  I carried my Core around for a week or so prior to get ready for it and I don't even nitce it's there now :D I like that it has the more old school look mixed with the new school look as well :tu: Will run it through the mill but so far the knife blades are sharp and the saw does cut :D Haven't needed the drivers yet but if they are like the Core's will do fine ;) :D

I'm curious about these sheaths and if they will fit a ST300...any thoughts?

This looks too skinny near the bottom...

Genuine brown leather sheath with snap closure holds Crater and Exapnse 55 model knives. Also holds the retired k502/k503x or h502/h503x lockback models.

This looks a bit more workable...

Premium leather sheath for folding hunting knives fits the Klamath and Nehalem models. Features belt loop and button closure for quiet operation in the field.

I would highly doubt the sheath designed to hold the Crater and Expanse knives would work with the ST 300.  They are completely different shaped.  I have an Expanse E33B, the smaller version to the E55.  It's a half an inch smaller but if the sheath is designed for those knives I can't imagine a ST 300 fitting very well.

I am using the nylon version of the leather 1 for my ST300 it came with my h502 :tu: The velcro may be a bit more forgiving than the leather and it's snap though  :D The second 1 may be to big of course I don't know as I don't have any of the hunting knives so somebody else will have to answer that ;) :D

Some dimensions of the knife that last sheath is designed for;

5.64" closed

Supertool 300

4.5" closed

I know there are two other dimensions, but the length is actually longer than the 300.

But what about the all around shape?  I know the E55 is larger than the E33B I have, but their shape is entirely different.  The knives aren't flat and retangular in shape.  The only way I would try it was if I bought it from a store I could return it to if it didn't fit.  If you do get it and it does work, post it, I'd be interested to know.  The E33B has a nylon sheath but it's shape isn't like a smaller version of a MT sheath.  Completely different.

I've been wondering this myself. Didn't a leather sheath very similar come with the Surge in some kinda Coscto bundle set?

Edit, http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,13966.0.html Looks the same other than the stamping.

Nope. It doesn't fit that one. The tool is way too big.

Saying that I have been able to squeeze a Core into my old school SuperTool leather sheath as well ::) I am stretching it with the Core so the ST300 should fit nicely when it's done  It is of course a well worn in SuperTool sheath though ;) :D

If I get a Supertool 300, I may have someone who works with leather "re-create" one of the old style LM sheaths.

Id kind of like the bottom sheath for my ST 300.

I would carry it a lot more in that sheath for sure.

Right now I am using a nylon ST 200 sheath and it fits perfect too.

I highly recommend using a ST 200 sheath if you guys are ready to throw the Surge sheath out the window.

I've  got an old leather ST 200 sheath.  I wonder if that will fit the 300.  I guess I'll find out when I get my paws on one.

I am now a member of the ST300 Owners Club..This thing is a beast but isn't as "chunky" feeling as the Surge I had.  It was delivered just before I left for work this morning, and before I even got to look it over properly I threaded the (crappy) sheath through my belt and looked for something to use it on all day :P

Did you find anything?

Sounds as though your initial impression is good (if we ignore the sheath).

Been roughly a month since I started carrying the St300 and it's been very handy :tu: I have had a chance to use just about every tool on it at some point  most of them several times :D So far I am liking this MT a lot and until the ST400 comes out I will prob carry this MT into the foreseeable future or until something shinier catches my eye :D

Nope, no real usage...just a lot of opening and closing.

Initial impression is good, no flaws in both overall design or my individual tool.  I still can't help but compare it to my LM200.  The pluses of this new model make up for the minuses IMO.

Things I don't like so far:

-The cutting blades new retention system.  I think it needs time to work in, but it's like a detent on the blade, and ball on a springly little peice of metal inside the handle.  Supposedly it stops the blade from opening up when you're accessing the other tools, but it makes the blade a little harder to access.  BUT the nail nick is now about three times bigger, and there's a cutout in the handle making things easier.

-The locking mechanism.  There's no malfunction, it's just I liked the old ST200 style locking system where you have to open another tool slightly to put one tool away.  That style would make the ST300 slimmer and it's one less thing to break.

Things I do like so far:

-WIRE CUTTERS!  No longer should anyone hesitate to squeeze down on something that borders on "too tough to cut".  Not only that, but there is also a small bypass cutter behind the plier pivot which I belive is also on the Surge.  That's a lot of cutting capability.

-Inner tools.  All are beefy and well cast and finished.  The only Phillips I've come across on a multi that looked stronger was on the old Bear and Sons tools.  I can go through everything but I'll just say it's all quality.

Thing I'd like to see:

-Diamond file.  The standard file is well made and effective on the ST300...but if LM is including diamond files on other current tools, why not go that extra mile and do it for the 300?

Two questions to those who've got the 300;

1. Did anyones come with a Torx driver to remove the wire cutters?  I thought it would come with a small L shaped driver, but I didn't get one.

2.  Anyone elses date codes weird?  On one handle I've got a poorly stamped "0" with 8 9 after it (0809 I assume)  And the other handle has 8 9... maybe their zero stamps weren't fitted correctly on the machine

Someone on here informed me after knocking Leatherman for not providing the Allen key with the tool like some of their competitors; that the cutter kit comes with it instead of with the tool. Sort of makes sense as it is something you won't have to lose before needing another set of cutters...as it comes with them.

I hadn't noticed that before - bot the "0" hasn't stamped properly on the dates codes on mine either! Good spot.

I actually like the detent on the blades, but I generally like things to be nice and tight on all my tools. I completely agree about the tools too - they're the same as the Core and are therefore the best going IMO.

And, as Chako says - the torx bit is supplied with the replacement cutters, although it's a T8 if you want to take it apart before you need to :D

I'm liking mine more and more every time I use it. My thoughts on the Core are well known, and what LM have done here is take all the bits I liked abut the Core and put them in an upgraded frame. It's pretty much the heavy duty tool that I would have designed myself.
