Help..! Recieved the 84mm smooth alox Cadet...
on: September 16, 2009, 07:57:28 PM
I got this in the mail today..

And I was very happy... Until I opened the main blade..  :o :o

That STUPID %¤#%"&¤% had tried to sharpen with a grinder and completely ruined the blade..  >:( >:( :twak: :twak:

Is the any chance for replacing the blade..? It sure requires some skill and steady hands..  ;)
Do we know anyone who's been modding alox SAKs recently...?  :pok: :pok:  :D

Ouch! This is why I always want to see photos with the blades opened before I buy anything on-line.

Sorry about your misfortune dude. I too have had similar circumstance happen.

Aarrgh! That really sucks.  :o

In the earlier photos, it looked like the blade was fine. Did he only decide to ruin it right after you bought it?  >:(

I would send it to Victorinox in Ibach. This way you get a new blade and it`s replaced in the factory. Afterwards it should look like new and most times they do this for free.

That blade isn't ruined. Any knifemaker can fix that, but it wont be 100% mint of course. It still sucks though!!   :ahhh

Don't get me wrong, I am... :)

If I had bought it, I would be happy if I had known the blade was scratched like that before I bought it. However, damage like that HAS to be mentioned before the trade is finalized. That is EXTREMELY dishonest.

AHB, if the person you traded with doesn't make it right please let us know who it is so nobody else will get burned too.

To be fair to the seller, its pretty evident on the auction pic.  Just sometimes its easy to get exited by a SAK and not see what's there (been there, done that).  It'll scrub up  :tu:

Not likely they would fix since it's obvious abuse. Also, that was part of a special run and they probably will not be able to repair it or replace it.

It was bought on a Danish auction site, so you guys shouldn't worry..  ;)
The seller had tons of stamps for sale and only this SAK..

Time to get the wet and dry paper out I'm afraid.
Any hints.?  :)

I don't accuse the seller for cheating me or something like that, What I just don't understand is:
"WHY THE HECK DOES PEOPLE USE A BENCH GRINDER..??"   :-\

People use a grinder because they know no better  :-\

Start by rubbing some 320 grit paper along the blade opposite the scratches until you can't see them any more. Then move to the next grit up and rub at right angles to the last lot etc. until you get to around 1200 grit.  After that its time for metal polish if you want a mirror finish.

Its easy to nick yourself doing this and you might want to wear kevlar gloves.

Not a fast process but its best advice I can give without pulling the blade from the SAK and that I'm not recommending.

That really sucks. :(  Still, when you're done you'll have a great SAK that you've put some time and effort into.  I always find that quite satisfying.

FWIW, I didn't notice the damage in the original pic either though I see it now.

I look forward to seeing the results of your work though!
