I'm going to rollback to preupgrade, and try again. Zed you'll need to rejoin after I do the rollback/upgrade

Are you sure the rollback is necessary?

I know the issues with the permissions.

Yes some pics are still broken, but that TAG issue is global for everyone, just waiting to either remove it or get it to work with the new software.  It should not prevent any images from displaying.

I think moving back might be more problematic.  However, the site was pretty nice which might be important if it is being shown.  Maybe we can type the upgrade on a different host before switching the main site?

Bren10man,  Can you maybe just wait a few days until we can get things working again.  Those all sound like great additions for the wiki.

Roger...I just need istructions on how to use it.

Am I the only one that preferred the older style?

I tried to access it today, and it was down.

I think the old style was fine,I see its still down.
Rest is not idleness,
and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer's day,
listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds float across the sky,
is by no means a waste of time

All reverted to the old setup now... we'll still be looking into upgrades though as there are a lot of bugs that have been addressed in newer versions. The old style doesn't work in the new version, and there's no updated version of it. Please be patient!

Oh don't mind me. There is an old adage that you can't please everyone. By all means, implement your improvements. I just use SAKWiki every other day it seems, and have found it to be an invaluable resource. My hat is off to everyone who has made it so.

no worries guys, the upgrades didn't go as smoothly as I wanted, and it seemed more things broke than were improved. we're still looking at upgrades, but approached differently, and in the meantime, reverted to the old tried and true setup.

Hi Everyone again.

We have again attempted an upgrade this time on a mirrored setup, which pretty much went the same as the previous upgrade attempt, however this time a little bit smoother... A lot of the same issues popped up, and the TAGs issue seemed half fixable this time at least.

Judging by the issues we're having the upgrade path is not going to work out. Too many things have changed, and despite the developers best intentions, aren't so straightforward to fix. A clean setup may be the best thing to move forward, and prevent future issues due to leftover garbage from the upgrade. Plus the ability to benefit from all the new and fixed features of the updated software. The upgrade is ABSOLUTELY necessary as the ISP are upgrading the server software, and the current version is incompatible.

My thoughts are such after conferring with Grant:
We do a 100% clean install of the latest software, get it all configured nice and neatly.
Create new galleries and use the bulk upload to rebuild the over 1000 images the current wiki galleries have.
Then rebuild a new Wiki, mostly by cut/paste from the old setup of approximately 450 pages.

The last part, if anyone can spare the time to do some sections to help out, would be a great help.

Once all is migrated from the old setup, we'll swap them out.

Just to clarify a bit- the help needed is copy and paste type grunt work, not adding new info, so even if you don't have any new info to add, you can still help out a valuable resource!

indeed, while new info is good, the existing info is crucial!

Copy/paste of the text should be pretty straightforward, but the question is, are we sure that the syntax is 100% portable between the old and new version of Wiki software. If not, code may require re-formatting. In either case, I am willing to assist. I was going to do some model/variation additons to Victorinox 58mm and 74mm articles, so I could take care of at least those 2 sections.

On the procedural note, I would suggest that the moment the migration process starts, it would be a good idea to ether make the old Wiki read-only (maybe by locking all user accounts?), or at least put a big banner at the top stating that any chnages made will not be guaranteed to be migrated to the new version.

That's more or less what we had in mind. Obviously some reformating can't hurt too. I suspect there's some other code in the TAG code that prevents some of them from being re-approved. Perhaps there is a better way to do it now. This is an opportunity to cleanup a bit as well. While the text may be mostly cut and paste, the image code will change, which is why I'd like to rebuild the gallery first using the new "File Gallery" vs the discontinued "Image Gallery" so that entries can be updated quickly.

Locking down the old one is of course a good idea.

Umm, since I don't feel like doing it myself, would someone add an addendum to the Bladeless 58mm, please?  Apparently they can still be ordered from suppliers with the old, slotted combo tool, and has the name Jet-Setter - found this out today from one of my dealers. :)

Looks like we lost the few updates from the last couple of days.  Update: Looks like Sunday/Monday updates to pages and image galleries are missing.

it's the best I can do...that was the last db before the change, so it should include all previous updates.
