Never heard of that.  Certainly no SwissChamp would have been officially made with no Tang Stamp.  You have a "Fake", or a very nice collector's item that could be worth some money.  Like a coin that has an unusual or missing stamp.

That would be very cool.

The hook came into use in 1991.

the blade is hard to take a good picture of but you can see the refelction on the blade and no markings. is it possible for the markings to wear off? I would think not. i ran my finger across the bottom of the blade and can not feel any marks to indicate it was stamped.

I can't imagine how the tang stamp would be worn off on even one side, let alone both.  I think you might have one that slipped through the QC net, but I'll let the real collectors chip in as well. :)

I looks very smudgy, must be a knockoff!  :ahhh Oh, wait... it's just a slightly ot of focis pictures  :P
I don't know if I am mistaken, but both the tang and the blade look very highly polished. Could it be that someone had fun and ploshed the tange markings off to mess around with us?
Can you accurately measure the tang thickness ans see if it's slightly thinner than normal?

I own and have seen main blades with no rear tang stamp markings but never without any front tang stamp markings. Victorinox always says that is the true identifying mark of one of their knives. I would wonder what would happen if it were sent in for warranty work.

I could be wrong, but from the picture it seems to me that the blade is quite small. Isn't it a normal small blade? Those small blades don't have a stamp on it. Can you measure how long that blade is?

If it were the small blade then it would be on the wrong end of the knife since the pliers tip is right there and the shield is on that end. Also the nail nick is on the side for a large blade so it is the large blade.

You are right about that. The reason that I thought it was a small blade, is that on the picture the blade seems a bit small in relation to the handle.

I've got some Vics that are stamped only on the one side when from their age I think they should be stamped both.  Never seen a 91mm with no tang markings.

scrappy! :twak: my eyes!

don't take the pictures so close bro, move back and use the "zoom" to get a close shot
(you may have too try a few distances but not too close)

and if you can get something to help you be still (some kind of brace) tripod is best if
you have one  ;)

and use the flash and extra lighting, not incandescent bulbs if you have something else.

more pics bro!

If you look on the pliers of the knife you see it is 2.5mm pliers - those were made between 1986-1988.

Maybe this is a prototype ? (if they were made one ?)

You could also try making your pictures in an environment with a lot of natural light. For example taking your pictures outside, when the sun is shining.

I believe this is the simple solution.

...As well as mentioned above what ever setting you are using may not be able to focus so close.

on my new champ the key ring is next to the bottle opener but on this one it is on the same end as the bottle opener but at the bacl of the knife next to the saw and file. when was that changed?

That had moved over by 1991 I believe, so if it's on the spacer by the small blade it has to be pre-1991.  This document will give you lost of dating facts for your Champ.
