Charge TTi sheath help.
on: August 29, 2008, 10:15:25 PM
Hello folks,

I am planning to buy one of these shortly but I would like to know a little more about the sheaths first. Does the leather or nylon sheath have a stud closure or are they velcro?

Thank you,

Mark

Don't know anything about the leather, but my nylon has the velcro.

depends on what it comes with. They either come with a leather sheath with a snap button and the nylon comes with velcro but you can opt to buy either at leatherman.com. My Wave came with a nylong sheath, and you can also buy a pocket clip for the charge tti too.

The pocket clip comes with the TTi. I'd go for the nylon sheath.. It is far more comfortable.. To me anyway..

Another vote for the Velcro here some say it doesn't last as long but I haven't had any problems with mine .....yet anyway ::) But the snap on the leather sheath is as likely to fail @ least it is to me

don't get me wrong though both are very nice looking sheaths and seem to be built tough :) I am sure that either would be fine but Nylon just seems like it would be more comfortable to me as well ;)

Just to confuse the matter for you - I'd vote for the leather sheath. The ones that come with the Charge are vastly superior to the ones that you get with the Wave. Although the nylon one isn't terrible, I don't see the advantage of Velcro personally, and the leather one is probably going to last longer.

The side panels of both pouches are elasticated and I carry a Maglite Solitaire and a Fisher Space pen in mine, along with bit-kit and of course the tool itself.

Functionally, there's nothing between them, you'll manage well enough with either I'm sure.

I used to come here a lot.

I got a new nylon sheath after my other one broke and this one seems much more sturdy. I use my sheath at work, and then I use the pocket clip for the wave for everything else.

My Charge TTi came with the leather sheath. I ended up buying the nylon sheath not long afterwards as i found the leather sheath seemed to feel more bulky when on your belt. Compared to the nylon sheath which i found fit around the charge better. Plus i keep it in my car so the nylon doesn't absorb to damp as much compared to leather shealths.

I personally like the nylon sheath better.  I have a Ti which I carry often and have had both sheaths but prefer the nylon.  Although we sell equal amounts of each so I would say it's an even split on what people like.

Thanks for the advice everyone, it's appreciated :salute:

My own preference for material is nylon, but I really want the stud closure. My Charge Ti has the nylon sheath and, after a few years, the velcro is totally dead and the cover just flaps around. It's the only let down as the rest of it is absolutely mint - there's not one stitch missing.

So I think I'll buy the leather sheath and try to sort out something on my existing one to keep it shut, as well. That way I'll have both options covered.

Cheers,

Mark
