Leatherman Core Lanyard Ring Question

I just had a quick question for anyone that may be able to tell me. I just got a used Core with no sheath, and I am wondering with the lanyard ring open, will the leather sheath still close?

The lanyard ring can only extend out straight, unlike the ST 200 which can be positioned to the side. And I'm thinking that with a lanyard attached, this may interfere with the sheath closing.

I would say it depends on the sheath.  If you have the pressboard one, then I say no way.  If you have the nylon pancake one, then there is a possibilty along with the leather Surge sheath.

Thanks for the information. Another caveat that I noticed, just this morning, is that when using the lanyard ring with either the file, or the awl fully open, only about 1/16" of the ring is usable. Doesn't look like it will be enough for paracord, I will have to check tonight.

From what I can tell, none of the current lanyard rigs allows you to tie a lanyard on without losing tool functionality. I don't get it at all.

Well I've been playing with it, and two pieces of 550 paracord will fit through the lanyard ring with either the file or awl open.

Although if a lanyard is attached, and the awl is used, there is no way to move the lanyard ring past the awl, and the thumb rest of the awl becomes unusable.

That's a common problem with the lanyard rings on many brands of tool tbh. I guess the logic is that it's better than nothing.

You can improve the situation a bit by attaching your lanyard to the ring using a lobster clip - at least then you can detach it and move it out of the way when you need a particular tool.

The best arrangement I've come across is the detachable lanyard ring on the Wave, Charge and Surge. That seems to give you the best of both worlds.

I have one for my Wave, but I have always been afraid to trust it. It seems that all it would take is one tap on the lock lever, and the lanyard ring is no longer attached.

That's true, and something I've been wary of myself.

It is pretty solid though, and would need to be a pretty firm and well aimed "tap" I think.
