Pitching a new tent...
on: May 05, 2010, 09:38:03 AM
...after I find the right one :)

I don't know how much of you like camping, but I LOVE IT.  Not RV camping nor town park camping; Hiking then camping.  I've been trying to go as light as possible, sacrificing many things including cookware.  And since I finally came into some stable income I thought I'd start shopping for a new light tent that doesn't SUCK.  I'm looking for a solo tent that keeps weight to a minimum(I'd say that means under 3 lbs  maybe..)

Anyone have any reccomendations?

I'm looking at this one now

No experience with these: http://www.camptents.com/#Quickdraw in particular but with an other brand which I can't remember and I recal them as very handy and light. Perhaps interesting for you as well.

I have a Eureka Backcountry 1.  It has a bathtub bottom and was completely dry in a huge thunderstorm (1.5 inches of rain in one hour)

275 pounds = 400 dollars :ahhh
And it seems on the weighty side for what I'd be using it for.  I camp with a couple guys that all sleep in solo tents, This may be a subconscious attempt to avoid "brokeback mountain" type things ::)

Mr Whippy-  I looked at the backcountry 1 a while ago. Nice tent :tu: I heavily considered the spitfire 1 but ended up not buying it

The one 2 I'm looking at now are the Tarptent moment -

And the Tarptent Sublite-
http://www.tarptent.com/sublite.html
The two are TArptents cuz my friend has one and it comes highly reccommended
