I have some factory brass pins, are they hard to get
on: November 09, 2009, 05:38:01 PM
As the title says really, I have managed to obtain some of the brass pins used at the Victorinox factory.
once I have used all of them for my future modding endeavours, are they readily available as it was a bit of a 1 time deal to get these ones. will post a picture if anyone is unsure of what I am talking about.

Thank you,

I got the round head pins, the usual flat head pins 2.25mm and the little brass washer type items for the other end of the pin, about 50 of each of the pins and about 80 of the washers, should last me a while.

Hello viw9419, welcome to the forum.  I think getting the original pins is a bit of a coup actually, as I have no idea where you might get them.  Most modders (myself included) buy in brass rod and shape the pin-head by hand.  All the brass washers (or bushes) are farmed from SAKs as they are stripped.
Be excellent to each other and always know where your towel is.

I was a little out on the numbers.
Round head pins.  64
Standard pins.       50
Washers.                79

I will stick photos on in a bit

I think I may have missed something?

I am waiting on a few bits from Rotokid to get started in earnest on modding, I am still finding old SAKs hard to find. Now that the post have stopped being on strike I may start buying from ebay.com.
Where else do you think I should try, other than the second hand shops, and markets/car boot sales I am scouring now?

I don't think you'll have much luck on ebay mate - we're barred :(

I used to come here a lot.

We (in the UK) can't buy knives from ebay. They've removed all the listings on ebay.co.uk, and if you try to bid on ebay.com, you'll get a message saying you can't.

I used to come here a lot.

Fortunately, there are alternatives:

Those pins are going to make life easier for you, great find.

If you're not in a desperate hurry, give me a week or two and I'll be able to dig some dead SAKs out for you to experiment on :tu:
I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

Cheers mate.

No desperate rush, I am building up some bits gradually before I start. Any idea how long rotokid takes to deliver to the UK?

Shipping from the US to the UK takes just over a week (usually).  So depends how quickly he can get it shipped out.
I'm back!!
