At this time it would be:

1. Camper
2. Yeoman
3. Woodsman
4. Explorer
5. SwissChamp

That was back in January 2017.  Now it would be:

1. Vagabond  58mm
2. Yeoman  91mm
3. Outrider  111mm
4. Salesman  84mm
5. Expedition Lite  91mm
Rest in peace ColoSwiss, you will always be remembered.

Well - I only have a handful of SAKs - so I suppose those would be my favorite - in no order:

Compact
Fieldmaster
Deluxe Tinker
Cybertool Lite
Swiss Tool Spirit MX Clip

I would have put the Superchamp in this category, but sadly mine was stolen on a vacation - along with my Classic...

I'm going to cheat a little bit here; I consider the Philips vs. Corkscrew difference to be insignificant enough to group the Climber/Super Tinker and Huntsman/Fieldmaster together. :climber:

Explorer
Climber/Super Tinker
Huntsman/Fieldmaster
Champion
Pioneer X
Current SAKs: Explorer, SwissChamp, Handyman (modded), Climber, Super Tinker, Tinker, Woodsman (modded), Electrician, Pioneer, SwissTool, Executive, Ambassador, Champion Plus
Current Leatherman tools: PST, Original Wave, Wave, Wave+, Blast, Bond, Curl, Style PS, Micra

If Victorinox made a carbon steel Pioneer or Farmer I don’t think I’d ever carry any other SAK.

In July of this year I revised my top 5 to include,

Manager/Midnight.
Wenger Security 14.
Champion no hook variety.
Spirit.
Explorer plus.

My previous answers were.

Explorer.
Manager or Midnight manager if thats ok.
Champion.
Farmer.
Tinker.

I am back yet again,
Midnight Manager is still king of my SAK carry.  Previously it was a Manager.
Spirit with butter blade continues on.
Wenger Security 14 has earned its spot.
Champion without hook continues to be included.

The last spot was taken by my Explorer Plus but I am not really carrying it as much as I was.  My OC Farmer and my 84mm Golfer have been going at it.  While very different SAKs each is carried often enough to be included yet not "earn" top 5 spot over the other.

Booting off the Explorer? I think that's illegal  :twak:

You seem to enjoy the 2-layer classic loadout as 3 of those 5 are pretty much the same traditional SAK.

The Rambler/Manager is a very hard one to beat for an EDC.

Thank you for pointing this out!

It's a funny thing - sometimes, when you want to know something about yourself, it takes someone else to point things out to you that you can't see with your own eyes about yourself. Believe it or not, I completely missed the obvious commonality between most of the SAKs on my new top 5 list!

But yeah, I started out my collection with 2-layer knives and even though I've bought and carried some that are quite a bit bigger, I find that configuration really hard to beat. Especially if you're combining it with a 58mm. If this was a "Top 6" list, I would include the Camper without hesitation. A Camper plus any 58mm SAK with scissors immediately gives you a Huntsman/Fieldmaster tool set (or more, depending on the 58mm SAK) in a format that is easier to carry and weighs less than most 91mm 4-layer SAKs.

There are a couple of other points that make a SAK combination a no-brainer to me: 1). If I were to lose or damage one SAK while out and about, I've still got another with me and I'm not completely SAK-less. 2). It's easy to mix and match for different days/activities. 3). I don't like belt pouches or pocket clips - I'm a loose pocket carry kind of guy and smaller/thinner/lighter SAKs just fit better with that kind of carrying style.

I am a little bit similar to Marlowe in that after all my SAK buying, what I carry mostly boils down to a small one such as classic or executive, executive 81, ambassador, minichamp, etc in one pocket and variations on an 84mm or 91mm two-layer in the other.  If you have a scheme like this it's actually rather difficult to specify a top 5.  More like a Chinese restaurant menu: 1 from column A and 1 from column B.

OK

The easiest way here is to go with the SAK's I keep coming back to having on me...

1. 111mm One Handed Trekker Non-serrated
2. 105mm SwissTool Spirit MXBS
3. 91mm Explorer
4. 91mm Cybertool 29 / S
5. 85mm S557

Honourable mentions to the SwissTool X, Alox Cadet, Rambler, RangerGrip 58 ...

Surprisingly enough, I've never posted a reply in this thread. That said...

I'm going to cheat a little bit here; I consider the Philips vs. Corkscrew difference to be insignificant enough to group the Climber/Super Tinker and Huntsman/Fieldmaster together.
:iagree: I've awlso lumped every model with one particular tool in one slot.

My top five SAKs (I'll maybe go into why when I'm not so hurried):

1. Spartan/Tinker
2. Pioneer
3. Any SAK with a wood saw
4. Executive
5. Alox Bantam (is anyone surprised with that pick?)
USN 2000-2006

Afflicted with Alox-Pox and seeking the cure: more Alox!

1. Explorer
2. Farmer
3. MiniChamp Alox
4. SwissChamp
5. Harvester

My top five has changed since discovering the MiniChamp. It's ousted the Executive from the list :dunno: I've also been carrying the Farmer as opposed to Farmer X and I'm really liking its slimmer profile. To me it makes more sense to carry a farmer and a miniChamp together this way I'm getting the scissors but also many other tools without too much added weight.

Obviously if I had to grab just one knife it would be the Explorer but it would be really hard not to also grab the farmer because lately the best vic combo carry for me is the explorer and farmer together.

The SwissChamp is something I've coveted since I was young and that nostalgia does not wash off easy which is why it always rides in my day pack. Lastly the harvester is probably my favorite 93mm alox model but I find myself needing that MacGyver can opener tool far too often so farmer gets the edge on that one. But Really like that pruner blade though and the lack of the key ring makes for a sleek pocket friendly carry. It'll probably change again here shortly stay tuned

After a quick skim of this most excellent thread I have a few observations while I compile my top 5.

Keep seeing certain models that I would expect. Farmer, Pioneer/Soldier, Explorer and a Champ of some sort.

That said there are some models I am not very familiar with that came up over and over. Two specifically, the Rambler and Huntsman. Excited to go and see what all the fuss is about.

One last point that I didn’t expect is a number of folks seem to enjoy the thinner models. Spartan and Executive types.

So I did some research on SAKWiki about the Rambler and totally agree with how great a small SAK like that is.

Carried this Custom as my key dangler with almost the same tool load out as the Rambler for years. Just amazing to have it always available and not have any issues with carry since it is so small.

That said my little Alox custom has been pushed aside by the Nailclip 580. I have only had it since Christmas this year but it has earned a solid place in my top 5. Having nail clippers always on station for a quick trim or to deal with a broken nail is so great.

Nailclip
580 Having clippers and a nail file on board all the time is amazing. Game changer.

Yeoman
My first grail SAK and what I actually want from a SAK has changed since but it has a special place for me.

Swisschamp
The iconic SAK that I feel should be on any top 5 list. Wish I knew what happened to mine.

Farmer X
This is more of a theoretical since I only have Farmers but I love the Farmer and I love SAK scissors so there you go. Here is a picture of one of my Farmers.

Ranger
All the tools I love on a SAK with none that I don’t. Sadly haven’t bought one yet.
