I think I'm gonna send my Blast back
on: November 22, 2009, 10:51:42 PM
It is a nail ripper getting the scissors and drivers out. I've fiddled with it and done just about everything I can think of to get it to loosen up a little but it just aint happening. I know Leatherman is great about fixing problems but I don't like to have problems in the 1st place.

I don't know when I'll actually be able to get it in the mail as we're down to one car and my wife needs it to go to work so it may be a while before I can get it done. Other than that the tool is perfect, the scissors cut great, the knife holds an edge very well and I'm very happy with it except for the tightness of it.

Come on Leatherman, I know I've bragged about Vic tools in the past but I still generally like your tools too. But I think that, while your tools are as(if not more) capable as Vic's, you guys let more problems slip out the door. Your service department is wonderful but it's still a PITA to have to do that.

It's a hassle to have to send something back especially if you really like to tool.

:(

Is it just that it's all "too tight" DTH, or something more sinister do you think?

It's just too tight. I hope they can fix it. With the tools on it it could very easily bump its way into my EDC rotation. With the Clipdraw pocket clip on it it is very easy to carry. I didn't think I'd like scissors on a multi-tool but I have to admit the ones on this tool are very capable if not a bit on the small side. But I have plenty of experience of making do with undersized tools.  :D :D

This is a problem that's easily solved by Leatherman by simply making their tools somewhat easier for the user to service and tweak to their liking.

I'd send it in to LM, but it's still a lottery as to if the tension will be "right" when you get it back.

Another option is to take some pliers and try to loosen the bolts yourself.

My Blast was tight as the Dickens as well when I first got it, but to save you the stress of having to deal with sending it back, rest assured, it WILL loosen.  Just fiddle with it, oil it, and it will loosen.  I just put it on my belt tight as it was and figured I'd deal with it as I went along.  Before I knew it, though, it was easy to use.
I would keep it and just use it.  But it's up to you.

Every LM I have ever bought has been very tight.  They eventually loosen, in about the time you are able to get the car from the wife.

Would a Kick clip help loosen it up a bit? Then you could find your desired tension and go from there.

I have a brand new Blast that I haven't carried,it was a little snug, but no nail buster or ripper,it sounds like yours was over torqued,I'd send it back if its new,or take it back to the dealer you got it from.

Good luck on what ever you do.

Same here, both my Blast and Fuse could be called "snug" but certainly not tricky to open.  Neither one has seen much use at all.
Be excellent to each other and always know where your towel is.

I wonder if loosening the fasteners a  tad would solve the problem
