freestyle CX:pliers problem
on: November 26, 2009, 10:47:04 PM
My freestyle is just out of the box...but the problem is pliers are done wrong their bite is bad but really bad. On first picture is standard resistor (i am in electronics, so i need good pliers) on the back pliers don't bite at all. It is a big flaw i think...i don't have this problem with Fuse of Swiss-tool. This is just poor workmanship...so this is covered by warranty, should i send it back? Will they send me a new one?

Good pictures.  Traded off my cx for other reasons so I can't compare.  I am not all that sure that there
is anything wrong or different on yours from the rest though.
Leatherman has a great warranty though so if deemed flawed they will either fix or replace.
Someone will be along shortly to answer for sure.  :)

Welcome to the forum BTW  ;)

pliers just bite with upper part and may Fuse don't have this problem at all, but freestyle is disaster

It's just their design that is so. I had a look at other pliers as well (both LM and Vic) and they're almost all like that. I guess the idea is to have the jaws parallel when holding something that is a mm or so wide, so that you can use the whole gripping area for that width and up.

Yes there is some space on the bottom of the LM and Vic but on my freestyle is just too much even  if it is meant to grip one mm tick materials with full pliers

I am telling you there is something wrong with this one

Try getting some decent shots then and send them over to LM warranty. If they tell you it's covered, send it in.

Most general use pliers are designed this way... if you work in electronics you generally need more specific pliers. =P
Got those frog legs.

Isn't the reasoning for having tapered jaws allows you to grip small, round items without having them shoot into oblivion when pressure is applied? You should see the taper on the Spirit!  :-X

Just looked at the Blast that I carry on a regular basis.  It has this type of jaw taper.
