Two close friends have S3's . One fella has three of them . The other uses his as a backup for a Surefire L1 . The boy with three of em ownes some very high end lites ( Surefires , a McGizmo McLux III PD etc .) He has one in the car , and one in the EDC rotation , the remaining one is in deep reserve . High praise indeed ! The clip is impressive . I plan to a quire one , funds permitting . I too own some very high end lites . All in all very impressive .

Military Times reviewed the Leatherman Serac S3 here.   A CPF review of all the Leatherman Serac lights can be found here.

It's rather large for a CR123 light.  But it's bright and the clip and stainless head/bezel are tough.

The Quark 123 from 4Sevens seems like a better deal. It's the same size as the S3 but has more than double the O/P and is at least $10 cheaper.

I personally prefer the Quark for the price, but there are some notable differences that should be considered.  The Quark Regular 123 UI is more complicated than the S3, mixing light levels with SOS and strobe functions.  The Quark Tactical 123 doesn't allow tailstanding as the S3 does.  The S3 offers a removable, reversible clip allowing bezel-up or bezel-down, deep-pocket carry.  The Quark's use of the XP-E emitter not only increases output, but has a smoother beam with no rings and wider spill beam.
