Flashlights on TV
on: June 02, 2007, 06:47:01 AM
Tomorrow (Saturday) at 2pm Eastern on NGEO is the show "Man Made"  It's going to be about flashlights :)  I guess there's a bunch of custom lights on there that were made by some of the people from CPF (Candlepower Forums)

Just thought I'd pass on the info in case anyone wanted to see it :)

Sounds cool... I'll have to check and see if that's one of the channels I get.

I am still getting used to cable...

I watched the TV show.  What surprised me is its emphasis on ecology -- overemphasis on the materials used to manufacture flashlights and batteries.

Most of the hour discussed incandescent lights and only the last few moments mentioned LEDs.

Despite these anomalies, it was interesting for flashlight hobbyists to watch.

I think the coolest thing for me was seeing the glass being floated on the molten tin... (I think it was tin)

I thought that was really interesting...

It was ok.  They showed off some very cool old flashlights, then went over how the pieces of an Incan light (like the SF G2) is made.

They also showed off some modded lights, really focusing on a modded D Cell Maglite that you can use to start a fire.  (The lens was out and the newspaper was touching the bulb :P )

I bet half the security people I used to work with would love that- save them spending money on lighters!
