No more snow, temp is above freezing and rain is coming. There goes the little snow we had to ski on, now it'll be more like ice skating down a 30° slope with giant not sharp skates.

Last night and today we got hit with a blizzard, which again turned to sleet, slush, rain and freezing rain creating a huge, sloppy, wet, slick mess. It was so bad that I almost got the Jeep stuck a few times on the way home from the dockyard today, which is probably less than 5 miles. Of course, had I taken the regular roads home I would have been fine, but I turned off the main road to help someone who was stuck on a side street. I was actually past them and thought for a fraction of a second that I wasn't going to turn around. Then I realized that I couldn't in good conscience leave someone stuck, so I turned around (having to jump a good sized snowbank to do it!) went back and jumped out of the Jeep. I managed to help push the car out of a snowbank and get the person on their way, but since that road hadn't yet been cleared it even posed a challenge for me and the Jeep, mostly because the tires on the Jeep are pretty bald. Even so, I doubt new tires would have helped that much on wet snow and ice. I tried to get down the side street and back on to the main road, but to do that I had to go up a fairly steep hill, and the snow plow had gone by on the main road but not the hill, so I had to climb the hill and over the "plow leavins" at the top. I didn't make it on my first attempt, and as I backed down the hill to get more momentum, another car tried to turn off the main road to come down the hill and got stuck. So, I got out and helped him over the plow leavins, only to have another plow come by right after and freshen the pile for me to get through. Once I got back in the Jeep I was able to get a good enough run that the Jeep managed to climb over it and I was on my way again after helping car #2.

Then, about two blocks away from my house (and a block away from where my battery died on me a few weeks ago) there were two other guys trying to get their car out of the snow. The guy pushing was using the spoiler/wing as a handhold and was pushing on that. I stopped to give them a hand and suggested to the guy that he not use the spoiler as he was likely going to tear it off. You could see that he wanted to tell me off except that he wanted my help more! So I said "Well, it's not my car, I'm just suggesting" and we both started pushing. After a minute or so the car was free and the guys were driving off.

All in all I helped three people on the way home, and I feel pretty good about that. I also slipped and rammed my kneecap into the street during one "rescue" so I'm not doing much else tonight, which kind of stinks as I am supposed to be at work at the bar right now. I feel bad about not being there, but with the weather outside right now, I doubt many people will be.

The worst part about all of this? By tomorrow afternoon the only sign that we had snow will be the number of mud flaps and other damaged car parts lying in everyone's yards!

Sorry that you got our blizzard that we got on Christmas Eve & day,but it had to go somewhere,we still have a foot of snow on the ground here.

I've always been the type to stop when someone needs help. I know how much I have appreciated it the few times I have needed a hand and complete strangers stopped to help me out, and more importantly I think about how I'd feel if my wife was somewhere and needed a hand, how much I would appreciate someone helping her.

That's why I felt bad for even hesitating for a couple of seconds when I had the opportunity to help someone out tonight. If I hadn't helped out the first guy, I wouldn't have found the second guy to help him out.

Besides, if I have a hell of a time getting around in a Jeep in 4WD, what hope does someone in a teeny little import car have?

I bet your Glad your safe and home now . Its a good feeling when you know youve helped someone although it may not feel like that at the time

Here in Britain we are expecting our coldest January in 10 years and I can't ever remember a December with this much snow .The trouble is where I live are a lot of the country roads and lanes have drainadge ditches running along side them are are full of icey water

Not good for an upturned car thats slid off the icey road.

aside from the snow we had a week before christmas, which all melted in less than 24h, we haven't had any since... it's been all rain. The weather reports have been calling for snow any time now, and the temps have been gradually dropping closer to 0C (currently 5C)

This is the view from my office. We bought the place the beginning of 2008 and it was a great decision. Specialy in summer time I can go out for a little sailing and have a swim between appointments

We got about 1/2 inch like always in Arkansas shut all the schools down, lots of wrecks already and every one has to run too the stores. People here just dont have a clue.

Just got back to my lovely snow covered home town. Something like 3 feet outside, and snowing!

Also just spent 4 days in Revelstoke, look it up if you want to go to the best ski resort EVER!, and skied on the 2 feet of fresh snow that fell in the time we were there.

Lucky my jeep could push out of the snow bank the plow made in front (I live on a relatively major street and the plows come quickly), that's 3x3 feet of hard chunks of snow I didn't have to shovel!

I had to leave early from work today, we are having a blizzard over here right now..

The news is talking about 20 to 50 cm of snow, so I'm not sure I'm gonna get to work tomorrow.. $:-\$
On the way home today a lady with her kid on the backseat in front of me did slide right across the street and jammed into a huge snowpile... So I got out of my car and ran over to help her out... Nothing happened with either of them, but her car was stuck. I was running round pushing and telling her how to drive, but no-one stopped to help out..

But we got the car lose and she slowly followed my car until she made a turn up to her house...

Good for you Allen- it just goes to show you that if you won't stop, no one else will either! Every time I see someone stuck like that I think "what if that was my wife stuck in the snow?" I know I would appreciate it if folks came by to help her, and as a result, I always make it a point to stop for anyone I can help.

This is also why I drive a heavy duty 4x4 these days too!
