Black and Decker Rotary Tool
on: December 15, 2009, 06:59:11 PM
I have a Dremel 100 that i have had for years and it has served me well but it is some what limited on what you can do with it because of it being a single speed tool. I was at Walmart and found a Black and Decker RTX three speed rotary tool for 25.00 so i bought one to try it out.  http://blackanddecker.com/ProductGuide/Product-Details.aspx?ProductID=10951 I have to say i was pleasantly surprised the tool felt good in my hand. The motor ran very smooth and having three speeds is a real plus. It also has a tool less tool chucking system that i like a lot. For me using rotary tools is a lot like using mulitools the more i use them the more i like them. At half the price of a dremel tool i think the Black and Decker tool is a very good buy.

I think Alcohol, Tabacco and Firearms should be a convenience store, not a government agency.

Odd- we must have crashed he B & D site because I can't seem to access it!

Is this the one you got?

If so, that's a heck of a score for $25!

Leave the dents as they are- let your belongings show their scars as proudly as you do yours.

Yes it is the same tool but mine did not come with a case. Mine came with a bag and a sanding drum and some extra paper.

I have a Dremel and might be getting a Proxxon(if made in EU) or another Dremel next year.

I highly recommend the Proxxon. Over here we call them the "rich man's Dremmel". Honest  :P

That looks like a hell of a deal on that B&D Mike - congrats
I used to come here a lot.

Tbh - I don't have a Dremmel to compare it to. I'd say the motor is quiet, but obviously if you're grinding metal, that'll make a row anyway!

I used to come here a lot.

Are the instruments compatible with the Dremel?

If you are asking about the Black and Decker tool yes the Dremel tools will fit it.

THANK YOU!!!  :D :D

My mom and I were looking at getting the B&D tool a while back, but the single uncertainty that left it on the shelf was whether or not we could use it with Dremel accessories.  Oh, man, oh, man.  You just made me a happy man, if a slightly ($30-ish) poorer one. :-)

I had an earlier B&D rotary for several years before getting a Dremmel.  Both are good tools.

I can't afford a Proxxon :D
I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

I want half their range actually. First on the hit list is the mini mill, though the rpm looks a tad high (I'd want to mill plastics).

All just pipe dreams for the time being though :)

That mini-mill does look very cool actually. In fact I agree, most of their stuff does.

I used to come here a lot.

I'm planning to get one this summer. Also before you buy one send a PM to Jsews he can recommend some accessories you will need for it.

Picked one of these up last Thursday, and...WOW.  I haven't had a chance to use it for anything practical (unless kicking up clouds of cardboard dust counts), but the ease of use, speeds, and price really make this an impressive tool.
