sitka review
on: January 05, 2010, 03:51:25 AM
ok so hold on guys... this is my first review so i will try to keep my random thoughts some what organized here  :tu:

color-
khaki/ foligae.  nice looking combo, looks really good together and is not as stand outish as my orange/foliage jumbo.
build-
well for those who have maxpud stuff, you know.  its over built.  wish it was made here in the USA but hey business is business.  they gotta keep costs low...

how its organized.
well it has one huge main compartment, with two smaller ones on the front and one skinny one on the back.  i will go pocket by pocket.
top pocket-
the top pocket is not too big but allows for me to carry my sheathed TTI in the middle in the elastic holder (if you want to call them that) with on one side a thing of gum (the really big, hold like 70 pieces of gum, gum) and the other side has my backup ultrafire 123 LED light and my smiths pocket sharpener and a small med bottle with pain killers in it.  in the slip pocket behind all that goodness i have my arm band holder for my cell phone (i have a motorla stereo bluetooth headset for working out)
bottom pocket-
it has two slip pockets in side of it, and a zippered slip pocket on the outside.  the outside zippered pocket i have loaded with skinny type items like a FAK and tide pen and my sassy spray (dont ask).  inside i have really not a lot.  my workout gloves in the top slip pocket and the bottom i have an oakley sunglass cleaning kit.  and just sitting in that pocket i have my oakley's
the guts to it-
you can just about clam shell this bad boy, which is cool.  i guess they figured you would either want to access if from the front carry or over the top like a normal backpack.  lets start with the top (which in this case is the side with the zippered mesh pockets.  it has an SRB to hold items on that side close and out of the way.  the large slip pocket on the back has velcro for those who want to CCW with this bag.  personally i has all my patches from milspecmonkey there.  the zippered pockets are nice.  there are actually two pockets there and they are seperated by the stiching.  in one pocket i have some butt paste (hey get you mind out of the gutter!!!! i have a little one who is potty training still) and the other pocket i have the straps that you have remove from the outside.  now the back pockets are the same length as the zippered pockets.  but they are bellowed out to allow for thicker items.  the lower pocket i have a change of clothes for my lil one and some baby wipes.  in the upper pocket i have my gloves (my so cal blood hates cold weather here in richmond).  inbetween the front and back pockets there is a lot of room for you to store what ever you need.  i have managed to shove my kids cups, their blankies and some random toys in there with room to spare.
the last small zippered slip pocket-
this pocket has like the others, room for CCW, but man that would really suck in your back.  it is also set up to allow you to keep a 100oz water bladder in there.  i have not tried to put my water bladder in there yet, but plan on it.
so how does it feel to wear?
well i have been EDCing it since christmas and love it.  it is huge compaired to my jumbo but it fits really well with what i wanted it for.  the whole back is padded, really really padded and the strap is uber padded too.  which is nice coming from the jumbo.  the shoulder pad on it just plain sucked when you wear it for long times and have it loaded.  i am still playing with the straps to find the best way to wear it.  but i think its best if you have the pack sitting up higher on your back.  it seems a lot more comfortable that way...

wrap up (i know ive been long winded and that is so not like me at all)
    LOVE IT BUY ONE NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

oh and go get some patches from monkey too!

oh dear lord that was a lot for me...  sorry if you hated it :D  and for those who want pics.....  :pok:  i will get to them.   :tu:

I like the looks of the sitka.  Reminds me of a larger version of my Typhoon...will it carry a 8.5x11 notebook?

I can agree, it is a great bag!
I have it, with a mini rolypoly by the hip PALS.
Its very nice for dayhikes and general EDC. Its good when biking, and you need to sling it round and access your gear.
And epic for crowded busses and trains.

Recommended.
