Yet another bulls**t tool
on: January 08, 2010, 03:48:00 PM
OK, here´s a little tool I wanted to review for a while but never really found the time to do so.
I got it free when I got a carwash so I did not expect too much. Here´s a first picture:

Please note that "OMV" is not the manufacturer, but the Austrian national gas company. It´s where I got the tool.

To be honest: The tool is better than I expected it to be. That´s not too hard for I expected it to be crap, but still a nice surprise. The pliers are pretty good for a cheapo tool. Spring loaded small pliers, about the same size like the pliers on a Gerber Vise but stronger. The wire cutter works fine too.

That is pretty much everything good to say about this tool.
It is larger than a keychain tool (Gerber Vise, LM Squirt), shorter than a Juice. It is easy to carry it in a pocket for it is quite small, but it is heavy for the size.
The implements are crap. Let´s start here:

The "can opener" is dull and too small to open cans. The worst can opener I´ve seen on any MT so far, even worse than that on the LM Juice line.
The tool I think it is a medium screwdriver, the largest tool on the picture with the nailnick, might be OK for some jobs, but is too soft for real work. The "eyeglasses screwdriver" is too fat, too soft and too dull.
The "file" is interesting, for it has 2 patterns. The "cross pattern" is working as a nailfile, but again: The worst on any MT I know!

The tools on the other side are a little better:

The blade came dull, but some strokes on the Sharpmaker put a decent edge on it. The serrated blade is short, but working (poorly). The bottle opener opens bottles (not much to do wrong there). The Phillips screwdriver is soft again, but working on small screws.

Overall impression:
The tool is not worth being bought. But for it was a freebee, I guess it is OK. The pliers are useable and so is the blades and the bottle opener. If someone just needs these tools he might like the tool. It is far from being a good quality tool, but it is something you can throw in your camerabag or glovesbox to be used just for the pliers.

You´re right Sir!
I guess some people might consider that crap being a real tool. I would not have spent a single cent on it, but I guess if that "tool" was blistered and hanging in a mall quite some people might buy it - for a cheap "Leatherman". They do not even know what they are missing...

I picked up a similar tool the other day at a hardware store.  It was only $5, which is why I bought it.  The one I got said it was a Schrade, but that may not mean anything.

OMG. If they sell this piece of crap labelled "Schrade" they really kill the brands reputation.

It's already been done Woz. :( After Taylor gets ahold of a brand name, you can pretty well kiss 100 years of hard earned reputation goodbye. >:(
