collectors tool which surpasses its modern equivalents
on: January 12, 2010, 10:42:04 PM
I was looking through the threads on this forum, and there are some very interesting old tools out there.

Now, whenever I buy something, one factor which always draws me in is if something is unique. Having said that, for something like a multitool, functionality has got to be present (i.e. a unique tool which doesnt do very much would not really excite me).

Hence my question, in your (the esteemed MT collectors') opinions and experiences, have you come across a unique or old tool which could rival the e.g. swiss spirit, or LM waves, SOG, Gerber, etc, offerings of today?

In some ways, the original Leatherman PST and Pulse were better tools than the new Leatherman models.   They were thinner,  plastic-fee, and (with a few exceptions) made in USA.

I agree with parnass on the Pulse. It's a great tool. One of my favorite of all time and my EDC tool for a while now. It's thin and light weight. Has the LM Diamond file witch is the best. And has those beautiful rounded handles.

My experience with MT's is not very extensive, but I agree.  The Pulse certainly rivals the Wave for me.

I'd take a supertool over a core.

The SOG ToolClip is built better than any of the current tools IMO. As a matter of fact, it was probably discontinued because it was made too well, driving the retail cost up to where most folks chose a Leatherman PST or Super Tool at half the price. :-\
In order to be certain of having the right tool for every job.........one must first acquire a lot of tools
