Collection snapshot.
on: January 07, 2010, 12:49:40 AM
A bit bored again. Thought it might be nice to take a snapshot of the collection drawer by drawer.

So here goes....onwards to the photographs and explanations.

Starting from the bottom and working upwards…

Bottom most drawer is empty. It being the deepest and largest of the drawers, I was thinking of dumping all my sheaths into it, but am still undecided as my SAKs are outgrowing the MTs (yes, I got that SAK collecting bug bad). As of today, it is expansion room.

The second drawer is also expansion. It is a mid deep drawer and was perfect for the just received Victorinox Golf kit. As of right now, growing into this space. I have a few more Victorinox kits that will go here when I receive them.

Climbing upwards, the next drawer is used for various MT items.

The drawer above it has some SAK items.

Here resides part of the MT collection.

The next drawer above is also an MT collection storage drawer.

On level up, is the Leatherman main storage drawer.

Next level up consist of two half drawers. On one side, my utility knife collection, and on the other drawer, some more Leatherman MTs.

In the topmost Cabinet drawers, I have a bit of expansion room. One side has some of the smaller Leatherman MTs. The other drawer contains  a few knives.

The lowest level of the top chest contains all of my special boxed SAKs.

Followed by the main Victorinox storage drawer.

Just above that is the main Wenger storage drawer.

The next smaller drawers contain the larger and smaller Victorinox knives.

Above that, are two expansion drawers. The one on the left is already partly full with some Victorinox and custom SAKs. The drawer on the right contains some junker knives. Some of which are missing tweezers and or toothpicks. I also store my Raker tools here.

The next level up contains a SAK book, the middle deep drawer holds some boxed knives, and the drawer on the right is ready for expansion.

The very top of the chest contains various papers, empty boxes, etc.

So there you have it, a snapshot of my collection.
A little Leatherman information.

Occasionally I'll have friends over and if we are drinking a few beers I'll pull out my tacklebox with my multi-tool collection in it with roughly 20 multis in it.  Invariably I get the "Holy crap...that's a whole lot of multi-tools."  I can only imagine what your friends say Chako, I suspect they are organizing an "intervention" at this very moment.

Nice man...nice.

Slacker..........no Copper Cadet.      Have you ever thought about collecting Case knives?  I like the Camper & Scout Jr. patterns.  I sort of look at them as American SAK's.

Those wooden MTs are mostly made in China with varying quality levels. Some of them carry the Winchester brand on them. The bottom one is a Sears Craftsman that was bought at the local store chain. That one is the better of the lot quality wise. In fact, if you so wish to own one, that is the one I would recommend to you.

However, they all sort of fail with the quality of the folding tools. Typical Chinese stuff. With that said, I still have a weakness for wooden things, and find each and every one of them beautiful to look at. The Sears actually feels very well made, albeit heavy.

Pacu, I still have some expansion room. How long that will last is anyone’s guess.

1jump2many, no thanks. I think I have enough to worry about with MTs and SAKs along with a small side order of utility knives.  And thanks for reminding me that I do not have a copper Cadet yet.

My Grandfather has one of those wooden Chinese ones. I agree it really does look nice and feels fantastic to the hand, but man do the implements suck.

The key word is "yet".  :D  I'm sure you'll have one before I do.  That is the only color Cadet I am missing too.  Your collection is awesome.  You have to have a "Golden Goose", "Moby Dick", whatever you want to call it, because sometimes the chase is better than the catch.  When you do get one, I want to see a nice big bright picture of it, in all it's glory.   :D

Man that is just insane.  Do you swap them out for your EDC?  What's your favorite MT?  What's your most used MT?

Chako, do you ever use those utility knives for anything?  I bought a cheapie at the hardware store a while back, have been eying a nice Craftsman one at Sears, but I can't bring myself to buy one because I can't imagine it being any better than a regular folder or SAK.  Am I missing something (likely!) or are they just in your collection because they're pretty, pretty tools (which they are!)?

EDIT: I should also note that not only is that a KICK @$$ collection, I am flying into an unholy rage of jealousy over your container.  I so want one of those Craftsman tool chests.  >:D

<---is unfortunately attracted to gadgets and technology. :(

As for the utility knives, yes, they are my users. If I need a knife around the house, I grab one of those to do the dirty work. It is liberating to not have to worry about ruining a blade. If the Sears is that wooden handled knife...get it.

I know a few local people who EDC a utility on their belt.

Thanks!  The one I was looking at...if memory serves, been a while since I was in the store...was a two-pack.  One was larger than the other, and they were both folders.  Definitely not wooden, but they were Craftsman.  I may just have to grab it/them next time I'm there.  Again, thanks.  :tu:
